I realized that the New York Musical Festival is slowly drawing to a close. With that said, I unfortunatly lost track of time and this is the first summer in ages where I am actually in NYC and able to attend.

Is there anything good that is playing that people can suggest?

I was very impressed with Stealing Time, but I guess it's too late for that.

I just saw a letter to harvey milk last night. Honestly i went in with the thought "please don't let it suck too badly" All NYMF shows need work so I tend to not expect much from them, and although this definately needs some work it was one on my most enjoyable NYMF experiences in all the years I have been attending. I was lost at times due to the heavy use of yiddish. Most of the time i was able to at least infer what the context was based on the situation and how the actors handled it, and there were some jokes that i feel must have been stereotypical to the average jewish family based on the laughter. some of the songs rely on rhyminglyrics, but it was a really enjoyable show filled with laughter, great acting, and an emotional punch. I really would suggest this

I was extremely impressed with the lead actor Jeff Keller. I had never even heard of him, and now I would like to see him in anything else.

To pull a comment from another thread: I just saw and really loved SWING STATE and STUCK. This and STUCK (perhaps due to their small casts and short run times) are the most well executed shows of the festival, and you can tell everyone involved in each was 100% committed to the project.

Also, though I thought it was a muddled and confused mess with enough material and characters for 4 musicals, BABY CASE easily featured the best performance of the festival: Melissa van der Schyff. As the maid, Violet Sharpe, she has only one song in the first act, however, it's so well done, it's really as if they were pulled from a completely different (ablet better) show. It was also performed with such conviction and raw emotion, honestly, that song alone would make an incredible ten minute musical on its own.

However, with BABY CASE and STUCK having both closed, go see SWING STATE. Morgan Weed is giving a true tour de force performance. Don't miss it.

I enjoyed 'Trouble'!

That's Troubling.

While there were things about Trouble that were enjoyable (Daniel Quadrino for instance) the show itself was not enjoyable.

True. But good performances. Definitely needs work, though.
