very cool thread topic
i'm 15 and have been acting since i was 8 and singing since i can remember. i've been taking piano lessons for 4 years to help prepare for a music education career but have been recently contemplating musical theater, who knows? lol i've done community theater, and many school productions. no dance experience but i move well thanks to billions of hours of Oklahoma! rehearsals...anywho! i love the whole musical theater idea and can't imagine living without doing several shows a year.
LOVE WATCHING!!! its amazing to watch other actors/singers. you can relate to alot certain interpretations of lines/songs etc. i love watching almost as much as performing. being a watcher can allow you to support the actors more if they had a bad night, cause you would know how great support is.
i'd give anything to go on for broadway, anything on broadway performing. but issues concerning my parents not really being happy about a musical theater major, the crazy competition, etc. its hard....but dreaming never hurts re: Are you a doer or a watcher?

I am Audience--hear me roar (well clap and sometimes cheer).

I love shows, but the closest I ever got to the the-uh-tuh was a high school play in which my outstanding talent was the ability to be heard beyond the footlights (no mics in those days).

Bobo...

I'm a "watcher" with the soul of a "doer". Had I been born with more talent/confidence I would volunteer for more than backstage stuff and not just be a good "choir alto" these days.
In grade school I got roles in plays and discovered I loved directing in high school. I am a writer, too, and have written things for church activities (including three "roadshow" skits which were a test of creativity, patience, and timing!)

Your missionary service will provide you with a lot of wonderful personal growth and a great chance to observe people from different backgrounds. I think that will be a boon to anyone interested in acting. It can add texture to your performance because you can incorporate all the nuances and characteristics you have observed. By the way, I served an 18-month full-time mission, myself. :o)

Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

i've been seeing shows on Broadway since i was 5 (i'm 18 now). smoething i love even more than seeing musicals is being in them. i'm moving to nyc in a month for more musical theatre training and then I plan on pursuing a career on Broadway.

I watch people doing

I am 57. I used to tilt at windmills fighting NYC political BS. Now, I have retired from the fray both locally & nationally. I could care less about anything political. I do not vote in any elections as no matter who you vote for the same BS takes place

I fought the good fight but I pass the torch onto someone else. Boy, does that sound pithy

I'm a 'doer'. I like to be involved in every aspect of theatre. Also, I'm a 'listener' more than a 'watcher', as I live far from NYC and know most musicals by soundtrack only (hence why I have made no comments on "Caroline, or Change"), but I make it to the city every couple of years to see things. Hopefully I'll be there in August.

I am a theatre major and have just finished my sophomore year of college. As I mentioned in a different thread, I'll be directing a play at school in the fall. Right now I'm assistant stage manager for a community theatre production of "Once Upon a Mattress".

I love musicals and I love to sing, but I'm not a 'singer'. When I do sing, I belt. LAAAAAA :) I love acting (and being onstage in general). I'm an Irene Ryan nominee for the KCACTF next year, so I'm looking for monologues at the moment.

I write plays in my spare time. I would love to be a professional playwright someday, but it's such a hard field. Even if you can get into it, it's not like you've got a steady gig going. I mean, try to name 5 playwrights that you've seen more than one play of. It's hard! (If so, who did you use? Shakespeare? Williams? O'Neill? Albee? Miller? Now notice: My 5 are all male. I am not).

(P.S. I am totally loving this thread! It's so fun to find out about all of you!)

I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

Well, Bobo and Beacon, it seems we all have something in common! Anyway, I am primarily a stay at home mom. Which is a great education! I moonlight as a musical theatre performer, and when pregnancy or tiny babies keep me from performing, I'm out there supporting my husband, whom I met doing a community theatre production. I just closed my first starring role in the community theatre and during that show got hired for my second professional gig. My husband and I are working on a mini musical for a special celebration on July 24h.

I also love to watch and although having a family makes it a bit more difficult to get out and see all the shows I want, I bet there aren't many other 4 year olds out there who choose "Into The Woods" over Barney and knows most of the lyrics to Wicked, Hairspray, Once On This Island and My Fair Lady. (Her favorite is "Ombry Iggins" and the namen-namen-namen song.) Theatre keeps me sane!

...and your children start to leave you from the moment they are born.

I've been working as a musical director/pianist/arranger at a small Equity theatre outside Chicago for 27 years. There are a large number of people who had their first Equity theatre experiences at our theatre who have since gone on to work on Broadway, movies, TV, etc.
