What is the difference between an associate conductor and an assisstant conductor, if any at all, and what do they do?

Not sure the difference, but an assistant conductor is more of an understudy for the conductor. If the conductor takes a day off or is sick, the assistant will conduct. When the conductor is there, the assistant will usually play a keyboard/synthesizer.

Usually the "associate" is the first assistant and the "assistant" is the second. Generally the associate conducts at least two performances a week, and plays the least complicated of the keyboard books the rest of the time. The assistant is the backup who conducts if both the conductor and the associate are out and usually plays the second keyboard book.

The associate and the assistant will usually also be rehearsal pianists and often work with understudies.
