Was anyone there? I know there was a huge celebrity in the audience...anyone know who? The woman next to me thought it was Bon Jovi...

I also saw Oliver Platt there.

ANYWAY...

This was the first time I saw the show, aside from the concert dvd. Thought it was great. Too long, things could have been cut.

At the end of the show, I attached the message of it to the current war. Perhaps the cast used it for inspiration, or not, but that's what I got from it.

Daphne was fine. The entire show, to me, seemed to be less of the stereotypical "pretty singing" sort and more of a focus on characters/characterizations ... which works better IMHO. Then again, I have only seen the concert DVD, so I don't know. Just seems that way. I did think Daphne's voice was irritating, but I attributed it to her character. It fit the direction of the show.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
