Well folks, audition season as arrived for me and hundreds of others. I have decided that 16 measures is the most ridiculous amount ever, being cut off mid verse doesn't show off anything.
So hear I come begging for help again. I am a baritone (aren't we all) in need of 16 measures that is going to show off anything from a low C to say an F....since this is such a small number, I am struggling to think of anything. Does anyone have ANY idea....you will be my hero.

Why don't you do some research or consult the services of a good coach??

16 bars is plenty. 16 bars of a song from c-F is actually kind of broad. You might need to give a little more detail. Keep in mind that 16 bars is a concept. If you do 20 it's not gonna kill anyone.

Hm...you could always look at tenor songs. Some of them don't go that high, except for the "money note" at the end. Look at "I don't Hear the ocean" from Marie Christine by Michael John LaChiusa. It can be very moving and its a rather short song anyways. You can also do "I'd Rather Be Sailing" from A new Brain by William Finn. There's "Sometimes a Day Goes By" from Women of the Year (I think) by Kander & Ebb. "Shouldn't I Be Less in Love With You" from I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Go look at some of the new "16 Bar Audition" books that are out there. I believe they are published by Hal Leonard. They have some great suggestions. Of course, then you still want to learn the whole song, in case they want more....
Oh...and if they say 16 bars, most of the time they mean 16 bars....
