Hi,
I'm planning to audition for a community theatre production of Beauty and the Beast, as well as a High School production of The Music Man. What would be a good, but short Broadway audition song for an alto female range?

It might be helpful for people to know if you are male or female.
go to the student board--they have alot of posts like this and are very helpful. Also you could do a search. There are ALOT of threads like this.
I'm not an alto, nor am I any good at giving advice because I feel that whatever song you are most passionate about, that will be the song that you do YOUR best on. But I do advise you to stay clear of Les Mis, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast (for that show) and The Music Man (for that show) 1. because the first 2 are overdone and the directors can easily get bored and have a previously stereotyped reaction and 2. it's not necessarily acceptable / good to do a song from the show you're auditioning for. I'm a Soprano so I can't give Alto advice that well, but good luck!

Are you a soprano? If you are, I'm singing "Sympathy Tenderness" from Jekyll and Hyde. Its a good soprano song. Hope it sorta helps!

pick a song you love and feel connected to and that you sing very well in the style of the character you're auditioning for.
there isn't anything wrong with singing from the show. most auditions i go to they ASK you to sing from the show...sometimes...i sing something out of my book. a song that is in a similar range and style to the role i am auditioning for. if you feel very confident about a song from the show ..then GO FOR IT! just be really sure of it and be sure you sing it very well!
its pretty impossible for someone to pick a song for you without knowing you or the sound of your voice. just pick something that you LOVE to sing!
