Audition Songs

I'm auditioning for a summer theater program and I have to have 32 bars of a song prepared. I'm a 13 year old girl and have a range from a low E below C to a B flat above the staff. If you have any suggestions for a piece please tell me!! I need to have this selected ASAP. Thanks a lot.

I have almost the same range as you and I'm 13! What would you consider yourself? Alto, Soprano or Mezzo?

I would consider myself a boderline mezzo/ soprano. Of course I'm a soprano for my age group but in reality I'm a mezzo so just whatever floats my boat.

Maybe something from Thoroughly Modern Millie? Also, maybe How Could I Ever Know from The Secret Garden. It's more of a Soprano song, but it only goes up to a high F.

same range here.
I'm singing the secret garden song right now. But it doesn't show any belt. so how about Nothing from a chorus line, or "home"from beauty or maybe "Somewhere that's green",although all of those don't go any higher than e".

ugh...no....secret garden..i audited over 300 auditions last year in three days and I heard that song OVER and OVER. Dont do a song thats done to death, The auditors will shut you off. Even if you sing it good! Find something that fits your voice but not from a current show...millie is current. Go to a large city library and look through their music department, or ask a vocal coach for advice. good luck!

How about going back to osme of the standards: I Enjoy Being a Girl, I Cain't Say No, I Know Things Now, 16 Going On 17... There are lots of roles out there for younger actors. You'll find what you need in them.

Thanks for the help! I was considering "Home" or "My New Philosophy" (i love KC). Keep posting! I need all the help I can get.

never sing a song associated with another artist. If you sing Philosophy, they will immediately compare to you to KC and thats all they will hear. Unless you can do it better than her, Id stay away from that one. I would, again recommend, NOTHING after 2000, unless its somewhat obscure. The object of an audition is to show oriniginality,creativity,risk taking,personality..find the song that meets those requirements. Im speaking more for a professional level. Also a big mistake newbies make is singing something that is just out of their range, beacuse it "sounds great on a soundtrack." SIng something thats comfortable for you. Auditiors do not need to be blown away, unless you can really BLOW them away. SIng something that fits your range,age, and dramatic ability, and youll be ok. Good luck
