I am auditioning tomorrow for 'Sandy' in GREASE! at my high school! I'm really excited and I know everything I am doing and am really prepared.
One thing however... this year auditions are on the stage(yay!) and I was wondering if when I do my 16 bars of "All Choked Up" if I should pretend as if someone is on stage as 'Danny' or if I should do it all out towards the director, choreographer, and music director? I'm assuming out to them, but I just want to double check.
Also, I know I should use the stage, but 16 bars is not a lot of time to do too much, and if I get to one side of the stage, for example, would it be toooo much if I did morrre movement?
Thanks a lot everyone!

PLEASE HELP.
another thing: i'm gonna scrunch my hair (kinda curl) and should i wear a short scarf around my neck OR around my head as a head band and have the long end go off in front of one of my shoulders?
I think you should simply walk slowly around the stage, to show the director that you can use a stage and don't get stagefright. Also, use lots of expression and hand movement, that works well for Sandy....and for the hair....I think you should scrunch it, and do the headband thing....just my two cents!

ummm...
I don't think wandering the stage is any good. Walking is not what the director wants to see. Hell..at this point they don't want to see much of any movement..that's what the choreography call back is for. This is a vocal call back and that's what they want to hear.
Also..excessive hand movement and facial expressions can take away from your performace rather than help it. It gets to be too distracting. Movement is fine if it is part of the character..not to say "look at me!!!".
And thank you for actually thinking about your audition and music BEFORE your audition and before posting.

thanks Mr. Tuttle... but actually they gave us a 16 bar part that the character sings. I had to sing "All Choked Up"- the first 16 bars that 'Sandy' sings.
AND BTW, it went really well! I did it once and they said I sounded incredible and then the director asked me to make it even sexier and so i did some stuff like shimmying (sp?) and stuff... it was awesome i feel. I felt really happy when I walked out of there. Hopefully the height issue won't be a problem this year! (last yr i didn't get 'Babe' in The Pajama Game cuz the guy they wanted who was one of the 2 only good guys to audition for that role was just as tall as me and they want a guy who's taller... i'm 5'7", and this year he's taller than me... he grew... and there are 2 other guys who are taller... so if they're good enough it'll all go well! yay... laterzzz!
