I'm a mezzo and a pretty decent belter (and can tap dance, so not so worried about that). I'm a white chick that can sing Bonnie Raitt, Adele or even some Aretha. Idina songs come to mind, but it has to be classic musical theatre, not the modern belting someone like Idina is known for. I kinda want to do "When You're Good to Mama." Fun! (Yeah, it's for community theatre. But good community theatre.)
Thoughts? Thanks!

No! Lord. Your audition panel would rather kill themselves.

Haha, thanks! Yeah, that Ms. Byrd song sounds a bit annoying. But it stays with you! I'll have to check out sheet music for the other suggestion.
Thanks again!

Hi Lovepuppy,
It isnt that its annoying, the problem they will have heard it ten times already as its the most obvious choice.
Glad to help.
Ms. Bird...
if you do it right it will book you the role.
Also: Ms. Marmelsteen (sp?) I forget what show it's from.

Ms. M yes but no panel wants to hear Miss B it has been done to death. They will respect you much more for taking the time for finding something a little more interesting - it makes you look like you take your job seriously.

Miss. Marmelstein is from 'I Can Get It For You Wholesale' it doesnt have the big sexy/belty pay off that I WANT TO BAD does (as Miss Flannery gets in FORGET ABOUT THE BOY)

Hmm, the thing is, I'd never heard of either of those songs or shows, and it's not a job, it's only community theatre. :) People tend to go with more popular musical numbers for that sort of audition. As far as I know, none of the shows mentioned in this thread have played here in recent memory so I doubt many would choose it. They're both in my range though, so I'd take the challenge for this one just to learn a new song in case I ever wanted to audition for a professional show later on...
