Hey! This year my school is doing Guys & Dolls and Little Shop, and the director is thinking of me for Adalaide and Audrey. I'm not very good with dancing, so she says I need to take jazz this fall... eek. I know they're popular roles - has anyone here played either role or has seen someone do a good job? Any advice would be great!
I don't know why your director would insist on you taking jazz. Audrey doesn't dance. Adelaide could be faked since she's the lead "doll." There are tons of shows where the lead just does movements while the ensemble dances they the hell out of a song. However, jazz could help you out for other shows and plain coordination. I hope that helped!
Yeah, both these roles don't require a lot of dancing. In fact even the numbers that Adelaide does I wouldn't call dance, more like choreographed movement. You just need to learn basic steps.
I agree - Adelaide's dancing can be faked, you could have featured dancers dance around her, any number of things. The key to the dancish numbers is presence. And yes, Audrey doesn't dance at all.

It depends on the production - the director could choose to make Adalaide dance along with the Hot Box dancers, and they could also add some dancing for Audrey during "Skid Row". In my high school's production of G&D, Adalaide was a dancer who just happened to be lead singer of the group. There won't be anything too major for Audrey (probably classified as "choreographed movement"), tho.
If you want to look at an amazing person playing Audrey, go no farther than the movie. Ellen Greene is amazing and the only person I've ever seen/heard come close to her is Tari Kelly, currently playing Audrey on tour.
I've never seen Guys and Dolls and know nothing about the show, can't help you there.
