My first thoughts were how bad the sound was, but then I realized that there were two people sitting near me who had impaired hearing devices on which I think the static noise that I was hearing was coming from this. Can anyone verify if the devices are known to make static noises?

Now to the show.

I really enjoyed August Osage County. The performances were excellent and the script is remarkable, as has been widely reported in reviews and posts.

Rondi Reed, Amy Morton and Deanna Dunagen were my favorite performers.

I couldn't believe how quickly the three hours and 20 minutes went by. That's not to say that I wanted it to keep going but I was surprised at how fast the time went.

As I was watching it I wondered how long it would be before it was adapted for film and I believe this is now being discussed. I am not sure how well it will work as a film.

As a side note - Calista Flockhart was sitting two rows behind me.

It really is amazing how the time flies by. You hear the show is over three hours and seem instantly turned away, but it really does keep your interest.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the play and I can't wait to watch it sweep the Tonys!

They definitely interfere, I've sat in two audiences where I've seen the people sitting near me wearing the devices and it makes obnoxious sound interference.

The sound from the hearing devices happens if the patron does not turn off his/her own hearing aid. Or at least that is how it is in the (regional) theatres where I usher.
