Ave Q discounts...impossible, right?

Just wondering if there are cheaper Avenue Q tickets available anywhere...I know its a long shot....but I figure I'd ask anyway. I just got the OBCR and I *LOVE* it. (Saw them in Bryant Park as well) I think it is hysterical and me and some friends definitely want to see the show, but tix are SO DAMN EXPENSIVE. Any help?

OhSoWicked, just get the rear mezzanine seats. They're only $46.50. The Golden Theatre is so small that these seats (heck, even the very last row of the mezzanine) are still amazing. You'll have an awesome time.

Yes, it is a very small theatre so even the back seats aren't so bad. You can try the rush lottery which offers 20 dollar tickets in the front row if your name is picked. Try playbill.com for more info on the rush policy.

You could always try the lotto. If you are lucky you could get front row tickets.

Really? I might do that then...

About lotto--you have to get there early and wait, right? See I don't want to plan a night to the city and wait and get my hopes up if I'm just going to lose...then I've wasted a night....Maybe I'll try the rear mezz seats.

You don't have to wait in line or anything. Thye start handing out the cards at 5:30 for the 8:00 shows, 11:30 for the 2:00 schows, and 5:00 for the 7:00 shows. You put your name on the card and the # of tickets (1 or 2) you want. They wait a half-hour for everyone to put their names in the lotto and then they call the names (at 6 for the 8 shows, 12 for the 2 shows, and 5:30 for the 7 shows). The only problem is that there aren't many seats in the lotto. I think it's only 12. I've won once and my friend won once but we haven't been back since it won the Tony, so who knows what it is like now.

Recently, I've heard of people losing 3 times in a row, if not more.

I find that the lotto system is more for New Yorkers who are in Manhattan that evening anyway. If you're coming into the city and you intend to see a show like Avenue Q, I'd say just buy the ticket ahead of time.

I would agree. Buy the ticket ahead of time if you really want to be sure that you'll get to see the show that night. I have heard that lotto has been pretty big for ave q lately, so it's pretty much the luck of the draw. If you are coming from out of town by the $46 mezz seats and have fun. It's a great show!

Not to be discouraging or anything, but I lost the lottery 7 times in a row before I had to go back to college. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Ouch! That stinks. Yeah I'm not IN the city I'm about a half hour away, so it would be a pain to wait around and then lose. We'll probably get the $46 ones. You've been a great help!

just a suggestion but why not buy the $46 tickets then try for the lottery anyway...i'm sure if you won someone else would want the rear mezz seats

yes that is a great idea! And if you can't sell them for their price which I am sure you could, you could just give them away and still technically get the tickets for $66! So it is a win win situation!

Go for the Rear Mezz... $46. Just got an aisle seat in Row E for September. They are fine in the Golden. Enjoy !!!

this is sorta OT but i really dislike this whole lottery thing... i miss camping outside the Nederlander Theatre with my friends and really earning those front row tickets. not just put your name in and wait. where's the spirit/fun in that???

I think that worked for Rent and the kind of marketing campaign they were going for. Most theatres don't like lines of people camping outside their doors overnight, though.

did people really camp out overnight though? i never met any who did... we just stayed there a long time duringthe day... we werent hurting or bothering anyone. just sitting there talking to eachother... what will all the homeless people in NY do when sitting down by a building becomes a crime?

i thought of something else... yea i can see why theatres wouldnt like it... but i think that even though technically speaking a lottery is more 'fair', i think they should do it more on a 'first come, first serve' basis. i dont know. maybe im just mad that i dont get cheap tickets anymore lol

In the beginning they did. It was quite a smart marketing ploy, actually; people would see these kids sleeping or lined up early in the morning in front of the theatre, and they'd wonder what the fuss was about. Then they'd find out it was Rent, and that it was the hip, Pulitzer Prize-winning show that had young people lining up overnight to see; and they'd then buy tickets because of the grassroots buzz.

try for the rear mezz. I just got rear mezz seats for Wicked (at the Gershwin, which is a huge theater), and the seats were great. I can't imagine in a small theatre...
