I thought John's first understudy was excellent, but Barrett Foa replaced him. I've seen Barrett and he is terrific in the role. A bit different from John (he uses more 'pregnant pauses' to great effect) but still funny and well-sung. And he handles the puppets with great elan.

I've seen Barrett in it only~ but I thought that he was excellent! Can't compare him to John, though, because I only heard the cast recording~ and I heard that it's a bit different from the actual show's atmosphere.

They should have an understudy puppet some night just for fun.

Scudd77- that actually would be quite funny; however, only us theatre geeks would probably get the joke.

Talking about pregnant pauses...
Does anyone else think Hunter Foster overdoes it a little in LSOH?

I hear Barrett is quite cute too? Can you please confirm! :)
Sidenote on the comment on Hunter's pauses.. YES! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he milks the pregnant pauses a little too much.
And now back to Ave Q..

Confirmed.

I think the pauses in LSOH were the director's choice--or in any event--kept by the director. I think they are funny--particularly when the plant first speaks.

Eeek... I'd say the two that are a bit too long are after Mushnik's "I'll Hold My Breath Until..." and Orin's Death Scene. Both are about 5-10 solid seconds too long for comfort. People started to shift in their seats.
Sorry to be off topic.
I would love to see Ave Q.

Oh yeah, the Orin death scene went on way too long, too long that I felt like I was trapped behind a car that wouldnt move at a green light. I wanted to shout "GO DAMMIT!" Mind you, I was already frustrated with the annoyance that is Kerry's Butler performance.

Eeek again!
Don't pick on Kerry... I was 100% behind you until then. :|
When do you think that Avenue Q will start/can it use replacements?

Well, so far, B should have a couple of more performances in late February, but I don't think that's definite. I'm not sure yet about the other understudies. I'm almost sure that John and Steph will probably stay until the Tonys are over- but that's my guess. Not sure about the other actors...

I know they are holding AVE Q auditions next week so probably won't be too long, unless this casting is for a tour.
