Avenue Q Question

Maybe this hasn't been asked, but I'm just curious:

My pen pal, Gene (genebiscontini.com)saw Avenue Q, and he's about my age. So, would it be appropriate for me? I've heard horror stories (Okay, maybe not), and hear it's down right dirty. I'm 12, by the way.

re: Avenue Q Question

This is what I tell my younger friends: If you can handle Rent, you can handle Q
Be aware there is plenty of cussing & swearing and there is a full puppet nudity sex scene
If you (and your parents) can handle it, then go and enjoy yourself, because it's a great show re: Avenue Q Question

re: Avenue Q Question

not suitable
"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

Yup, I handled and handle RENT very well. I think I will buy the CD. That's as close as I can get to it at this point, because I live in California.

as long as your parents aren't christian...lol j/k but it is an equivalent to a rated r movie so..

re: Avenue Q Question

Definitely check out the CD ahead of time and I stress this, please discuss it with your parents first. I wouldn't called it "R-rated" so much as "M-rated" but I was able to see Q till I was 16 and even my mother had her reservations. (Now we both love it, so it worked out in the end)

re: Avenue Q Question

We are Christian, but not so much that we go to church every Sunday. It's not our thing. But we do believe in God and pray.

re: Avenue Q Question

It's humor is similar to South Park/Family Guy and the puppet sex can create some awkward moments w/ the parents but it hilarious and my opinion on age suitibily is this: if you are old enough to understand it, you are old enough to see it.

re: Avenue Q Question

gavrochegirl - i am around your age and i listen to Q all the time. I love it! My parents knew what it was about before I did. My dad even knew before me and my dad has no clue what goes on in the theater world. It depends how mature you are and if you are okay with your parents being there. I also can handle Rent well and i begged my mom to bring me and seh loved it. (although she loves theater) but she knows i wnat to see it and she trusts me about it. Although i think Q is more mature then Rent.
For your answer if you think you are mature enough go right ahead (i also agree on getting the cd before you see it) Also just make sure your parents know what to expect.
