Okay, so I saw Avenue Q tonight and it was WONDERFUL, but I'm sure you all know that. A few funny stuff happened in the audience though:
The guy next to me sat down with a really old lady, probably his grandmother. And they were talking and he goes 'I hear there are Muppets in this show' and I just had to interrupt. 'Uh, no. They're not Muppets' and I pointed out the thing on the program that says that the Jim Henson Co. blah blah you know. And he was like 'Oh... I thought I read something about Sesame Street...' and I replied 'Yeah, well, a bunch of the actors worked on Sesame Street.'
'Oh,' he said. 'So there are no Muppets?'
'No, and you probably would be appalled if you saw actual Muppets doing what they do.' And his face fell. 'What do you mean?' 'I'm not gonna spoil it' I said.
Anyhoo, so the show goes on and the old lady with him is having a ball and his face is just falling with every passing moment and when 'You Can Be As Loud As the Hell You Want' came one, he nearly buried himself in his seat. It was funny.
Then, throughout intermission break, I heard people whispering and I actually had 4 girls come up to me and ask me if I was Zenon from the Disney Channel. That was weird, but I took it as a compliment. They were embarrassed when I said I wasn't. Weird.
The audience was filled with people 40 years old and up. It was crazy. But they were very responsive. They seemed to love it, although one lady in front of me turned around every time I cheered like she had never heard someone cheering before in the theater. Whatever. John said something to a girl on the aisle of my row that made her bury her head after he'd gone. I wonder what it was...
Well, that's it. I was with my aunt, who doesn't like to wait after for the actors. I dunno why. So I didn't get to talk to anyone after, but it was (as always) a great show. If you still haven't seen it... RUN DON'T WALK!!!
Great story, Sarah!
Spread the Q love.
