Just got back from Avenue Q. I don't usually start these threads, but I was so impressed with this tour, it totally deserved to be noted.

I saw the show in NYC two years ago, and personally enjoyed this show so much more. The overall energy was great, and Robert McClure's Princeton/Rod were fantastic, he brought a sensibility that I didn't see previously; completely changed my perspective of My Girlfriend... into a really sad song, actually. It was stunning. And go figure, Jordan Gelber is now in the cast.

I was afraid of how the show would translate to such a big house as the Paramount in Seattle, and we got 3rd row seats. But the stage and everything just worked very well.

I saw it when it opened in Seattle on the 10th. We had a pretty good crowd (though half of the mezz was empty). I knew a little about the show, but not too much, and I was surprised about how much my sister and I kept cracking up at everything. It really was an enjoyable evening. The whole cast was great (we got the alternate Christmas Eve instead of Miss Ai, and she didn't sing loud enough in some parts, but everyone else I could usually hear fine). I actually double booked myself that night (I had a graduation ceremony to attend (not my own)), but I think I made the right decision for a much more entertaining night.

And yeah, while the show seemed small, and would have been much better suited to playing at the Moore, they still made it work to the big space of the Paramount. We were sitting at the front of the Loge, and didn't feel like it was too bad.

Glad you had fun! I enjoyed the tour as well, and the cast was very friendly at the stage door.

I saw Rob McClure here in Buffalo and consider him a super talent.

Hm ... we had Jennie Kwan as Christmas Eve. The insert was not the usual small notice, and it included Jordan's bio on the back, so I wonder if this is the new cast and not understudies going on.

Also saw Q in Seattle last week. I saw the show in New York, and LOVED it when I saw it with the original cast. The tour of the show holds up PRETTY well, but it does get a little lost in that cavernous space. Jokes just weren't landing as well as I remember them - or maybe it's just because I knew most of the jokes that they struck me as less funny this time. Either way, it's still a fun night out, and the cast is uniformly good. If you haven't seent the show before, you'll probably enjoy it more than I did. It's not really a show that holds up to multiple viewings I don't think. But once is fun.
