Maybe this question has been asked before, but being new here I am not sure. Anyhoo, with the success of the movie Chicago, there are talks about many other Broadway musicals that should be brought to the screen. What is your choice and who do you think should star?

i honestly don't care for bdwy musicals as movies, but i must admit chicago, little shop, grease, and chrous line are some of my favorite movies. i prefer them onstage tho. but if i wanted a musical onscreen, i'd love to see Rent as a movie, even tho this musical is slowly dying (for me at least) i think it'd make a great film. as for who should be in it...i have no clue

I think Aida would be a really interesting movie. It's the only disney musical that isn't a movie so perhaps they should make it one. Maybe even get the OBC to star in it or at least some of them... *cough* Adam *cough*.

Sherman, since you replied to me via private message but have neglected to accept any yourself I am left with only the message thread as a means of responding.

Your welcome. I'm glad you found my comments useful.

If I may also add another suggestion. You might find it additionally convenient to accept private messages as well, but that is of course your personal choice.

My number one choice for next movie musical is "Ragtime". I've casted this countless times. But I think this would make an amazing movie.

they say Rob Marshall is going to direct Sweeney Todd next. That would be cool. I heard that Christine Baranski is doing it and I can totally accept her as Mrs. Lovett. It's scary though with the Hollywood casting. Like can't you just see them casting Hilary Duff or Britney Spears as Johanna and Enrique Iglesias as Anthony?? Oh my goodness.

ooh i just thought that The Civil War would make a great PBS special...it's a really good show, with some awesome songs, but it didn't do well because there's a million characters and a million stories. i think it would be a great TV musical

I hope I don't sound like a fool here but I think that with some clever thinking tick, tick...BOOM! could me made into a movie. It has many funny clever lines, a very appealing score (or at least I beleive so) and they could probably get Joey MacIntyre to be Jonathan (I thought he did a great job when I saw him) and find various celeberties to do the cameo roles.

Oh and Dee- Don't quote me on this but I think I read somewhere that Aida was supposed to be an animated film but got nixed or maybe I just kinda made that up Updated On: 11/29/03 at 10:11 PM

Enrique Iglesias may be an improvement from the Anthonys past. Poor Davis Gaines has had so much plastic surgery, Lisa Vroman must have felt like she was kissing straight-up silicone. And did I miss something in the Hearn/Lansbury telecast, or have the Beach Boys gone Broadway?

Frankly, I'm not sure Sweeney Todd would fadge well as a movie. It's too operatic for the general public to handle. Phantom at least has its plot and a much more familiar score. Chicago had a much jazzier, "raw-er" score. And it was a Fosse musical. Sex sells. Updated On: 11/29/03 at 10:49 PM

"Contact" was supposed to be made into a movie, at least there were talks of it. I read about it in a magazine or two awhile ago. It was going to be Stroman's debut as a film director. I don't know when she was planning on doing it though, I mean even as of now, I know she has back to back projects planned.

I think "AIDA" would make a wonderful movie (made for t.v. *or* big screen). My dream "name" cast would be:

AIDA - Lauryn Hill
RADAMES - J.C. from 'NSync
AMNERIS - Pink or Christina Aguilera (sp?)
MEREB - I really think Wayne Brady might be good...
ZOSER - David Bowie
AMONASRO - James Earl Jones

What do you guys think?

P.S. - Has anyone seen Michelle Williams as Aida yet? Any thoughts? Haven't heard too much about her.

Love,
Joshua

"Sweeney Todd" is to be directed by Sam Mendes, not Rob Marshall.

I know I have said this before...but Bernadette would be PERFECT in the role of Mrs. Lovett.....I have not heard anything else about that making of the movie, or who the cast will be...but I don't think Christine Baranski will be playing the role of Mrs. Lovett....As much as I love her, and I know she did it in Washington with Brian Stokes Mitchell, she didn't really do much for me! I think Bernadette could totally pull it off.....she has the comic timing, the voice, and even though people think of Bernadette as being TOO sexy...she is a very versatile person, and isn't always like that! Plus with Sam Mendes directing Sweeney, I think he will probably consider Bernadette for the role, since they have worked together for Gypsy........just my thoughts:re: re: re: re: re: re: re: B'way Musical to be Filmed:re: re: re: re: re: re: re: B'way Musical to be Filmed:re: re: re: re: re: re: re: B'way Musical to be Filmed:re: re: re: re: re: re: re: B'way Musical to be Filmed:)

I'm going to jump on the AIDA bandwagon and say that it would make a great animated film. Just my two cents.

I think all broadway shows should be filmed. Not as a seperate movie, but just like how CATS and INTO THE WOODS were done. I don't even understand why they bother filming Phantom in London. Why don't they just lug a camera over to the Majestic and shoot it in performance. That's the best way to experience musical theatre on TV. At least it's actually in a theatre so the whole experience isn't totally lost!

Thats how i feel bially. I don't understand why they don't do that. I mean I loved chicago...but that is a different kind of musical...minimalistic in a way...but most musicals aren't like that. They could just tape a show of millie....ya know? they don't need to make a whole movie. the same with phantom...but hey i am not complaining! I mean...100 bucks a ticket for one showing or 20 dollars for a dvd? i mean come on...i love live theatre...but where i am and the cost, it doesn't happen as often as you guys.

Great Cast, JoshuaEads1984!!
I too think AIDA would make a great movie, only I'd definitely have Heather & Adam back in the title roles...maybe even Schele Williams as AIDA.

When we were cleaning out our storage room a few weeks ago, my mom dug up her program from the Second National Tour of Les Miserables. In the program it said that coming soon was a feature film version of the show. Does anyone know what happened to this idea? As much as I love Les Miz, I don't think the musical version would translate well to the screen. The novel adaptations certainly haven't. :/
