I met up with Broadway World's very own DT today and we decided to hit BARE. we discovered at the TKTS booth that Bare was old out,but the chances of getting in on the wait list for Monday night is pretty good.
So, we headed up to the theatre.. on the way up Broadway, we passed a small film crew and a few "cops".. one of which happened to be Sebastian Arcelus of RENT. Earlier that day we saw Will Smith filming downtown..
Anyhoo.. after signing up, we waited at acute little Russian place, Uncle Vanya's, right across the street..
Now for the show.
ONE word......... WOW!!!!!!
This show wasPHENOMINAL and none of itsreviews truely due it justice. The cast is first rate and the production is so at home in that pace. Being so intimate, you REALLY get pulled in. I saw the tears streaming down Jenna Leigh Green's face and hitting the stage floor in one scene.
Micheal Arden and John Hill are perfect, or as perfect can be, for the roles they play.. John had me in tears on more than oneoccasion.. and fanninng myself on a few more! Jennna Leighh Green's act two number, "All Grown Up" gives her a chnce to show off what a great voice.. and BELT, that she has.
Adam, of course, was like Mary Poppins... practically perfect in every way!
Romelda T Benjamin as Sister Chantelle was a RIOT and she has a HUGE belt vthat rocks the oafters. Katlin Hopins was superb as Claire, Peter's mother, and the scene where she finds out about Pet2ter was absolutely heartwrenching.
Natalie Joy Johnson made a very stronng showing as Nadia and her numbers never failed to please.
The rest of the cast, tooo may annd too much to say, were equally wonderful in there roles.
During intermission, the guy working the box officeand cocession and i had a great chat annd he told me that after the show closes on the 27th, they plan to open at an off Broadway theatre space this September and, depending on how THAT run is recieved, a possible run on Broadway.
After the show, I HAD to meet Adama, so hung out RIGHT by the lobby door so I wouldn't miss him. He was such sweetie and signed both my BARE program and Hairspray script before graciously posing for a photo with me ( I am NEVER washing my left arm and shoulders again!!!! LOL. Just kidding!!!!).
I made my way outside with teh majorityof the cast members and John Hill was gracious enought to teh same as Adam and sigh my playbill and script and pose with me. we had a nie little chat about back home (Texas) and evereything. I also spoke with Jenna Leigh Green briefly.
Alll of the Barre company members are truely one of a kind and I wish them the best of luck with teh future of this incredible show.
PS.. for those Mike Cannon fans, I found myself walking the sae wayy as him after the show. Very nice guy.
Funny, you highlighted all the same cast as I did in my review. I think we are related after all. HAHA

Wait...I was there tonight too. Did you get John Hill to sign a Hairspray script too? I was gazing at him and noticed that he was cool with fans (you, I guess).

Yesterday was fantastic... the show WAS quite amazing, and BroadwayGuy2 behaved very well. When Adam Fleming passed by us prior to the show, I though BG2 was going to have to be restrained, but no such luck!!
GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!
Did he spit and sweat on Adam? HAHA

No, but I did notice him collecting what looked like hair and saliva from the stage floor and putting it into a little zip lock baggie...
Wonder if it's connected to the book I saw in his messenger bag:
"How to Clone Your Favorite Chorus Boy"
I guess if a duplicate Adam turns up in TX; we'll know!!!

maybe if I am lucky I will catch Wed night... (I am a well behaved boi)
Yes, DT looked at me like "Don't you pounce on him" when Adam walked by us three times before the show in the lobby.

Just wanted to add.. the show had a GREAT design team. The sets are wonderful and versitile and it feels very environmentalistic to me almost.. the cast is at the sides of the audience and on catwalks alongside the audience several times. The lighting is the standout though..... Kudos to the designers as well...
.....and the guitarist (I dunno which one) who was REALLY jamming behind the band scrims a few times.
