ok, after searching the net and reading countless synopsises (i dunno how to spell) i have yet to come across one that doesn't say "a horrific secret is revealed." SO, my question:
who wants to post a synopsis with complete information, including the "spoilers" and juicy gossipy info?
i'm dying to know what's going on in this bloody show and amazon.com is out of the script or i'd just order that and read it. oh and also, why is ruthie killed? does dr parker go insane after a while? and if you don't want to post it in public, send me an e-mail at pajamaboy@sbcglobal.net ! thanks a lot everyone!!!

Posted: 9/5/04 at 5:13pmyeah, i'm not exactly sure. i don't know the show, but i recently supper with a pal who did it this summer and told me that spoiler. i bought the cd 2 weeks ago, but haven't listened to it yet. another friend of ours was the swing the original BATBOY.

Alright here goes:
The show opens in a cave in Hope Falls West Virginia. The 3 Taylor kids: Ron Rick and Ruthie are spelunking in a cave and getting high, they encounter the Bat Boy and after provoking him, he attacks Ruthie. The first song HOLD ME BAT BOY begins. During this song, Rick and Ron turn the Bat Boy over to the Sheriff, who encounters different town folk who tell him that it either needs to be put down or used as an amusement to make $.
The Sheriff takes Bat Boy to the town veterinarian Dr Parker, who lives with his wife Meredith and daughter Shelley. The Dr is not home, so Meredith convinces the Sheriff to leave the Bat Boy with her(in the song CHRISTIAN CHARITY) Shelley who first wants to keep the Bat Boy(now caged), grows annoyed with him (UGLY BOY) but Meredith takes a liking to him and they decide to call him Edgar. Shelley's boyfriend Rick Taylor drops by to check up on him since he heard that Bat Boy was there. The 2 Teens torment Edgar (WHATCHA WANNA DO) and as Rick leaves, Shelley blames Edgar for Rick being so violent and cruel. Shelley leaves as the power goes out and Meredith sings HOME FOR YOU to Edgar telling him that he will grow to be accepted.
Meanwhile the townsfolk hold a meeting about the crisis in their town, they've got ANOTHER DEAD COW, 22 actually, and by the end of the song, they've decided that Bat Boy is the cause of this cattle plague and he must be killed.
Back at the Parker house, Dr ThomasParker returns home and encounters Edgar. He nearly kills him, but Meredith begs him to stop. The lack of love that Meredith has for Thomas is very evident as he sings DANCE WITH ME DARLING. Thomas spares Edgar after Meredith promises to have sex with him, and Thomas kills a goose to feed edgar.
At the hospital, Ruthie Taylor is traumatized and her mother and brothers try to comfort her (MRS TAYLOR'S LULLABY) Mrs Taylor tells the Sheriff that he better kill Bat Boy or she'll have him fired.
Meredith has begun to educate Edgar, and by the end of I'LL SHOW YOU A THING OR TWO he is walking, talking, and extremely intelligent.
The townsfolk hold a meeting to discuss the upcoming religious revival which they think will help in blessing the cows. Dr. Parker is told that Edgar must not attend or there will be consequences (CHRISTIAN CHARITY REPRISE)
Edgar, now speaking with an English dialect thanks to BBC tapes, and Shelly have begun to take a liking to eachother, and the horrified Parker's catch them dancing. Edgar has been reading the Bible as well and is very excited about the revival. Thomas and Meredith tell him he is not allowed to go and he freaks out (HOME FOR YOU REPRISE). Meredith caves and tells him that he can go, and Thomas grabs Meredith. Edgar attacks Thomas for harming Meredith but she stops him from biting Thomas. Thomas realizes then that Meredith has no love for him, only Edgar. He snaps and tells them that it's a great idea to go to the revival, but he can't attend because he has to "work in the lab".
Meredith and Shelley leave and Edgar explains that he attacked because he was so hungry. Thomas produces a live bunny but Edgar refuses to feed because the bible says it's wrong.
The cast sings COMFORT AND JOY in which the following things happen: Thomas vows to kill Edgar, the townsfolk and Meredith and Shelley prepare for the revival, Edgar feeds on the live rabbit, and at the end of the song Thomas shows up at the hospital and injects Ruthie with poison. She dies and Act 1 ends.

ACT 2 opens with the Revival. Reverend Hightower sings A JOYFUL NOISE with the townsfolk. Edgar, Shelley, and Meredith arrive and the town is horrified. Edgar sings LET ME WALK AMONG YOU and by the end of the song, it seems the town has accepted him(JOYFUL NOISE REPRISE). Thomas arrives and announces that Ruthie Taylor is dead and it's because of Edgar's bite. Mayhem ensues as the remaining Taylors show up bent on revenge. Rick pulls a gun and threatens Edgar (WHATCHA WANNA DO REPRISE) and an angry Shelley breaks up with him. He hits Shelley and Edgar attacks him. Edgar then runs off from the horrified townspeople. Thomas injects Rick with the same poison "in an attempt to save him" and Rick dies. The townspeople decide to hunt Edgar down and kill him.
Meredith and Shelley run off after Edgar and decide that they must leave Hope Falls and Thomas and the 3 of them will start a new life in a THREE BEDROOM HOUSE. Shelley reveals she's in love with Edgar and Meredith flips out telling her that its horrible and an abomination. Shelley runs off to find Edgar and Meredith is left weaping.
Shelley and Edgar find each other and profess their love. The forest god Pan shows up and sings CHILDREN CHILDREN as Edgar and Shelley, along with the horny forest animals engage in a giant orgy/lovefest.
Ron comes across the town slaughterhouse thinking that's where Bat Boy is hiding. Lorraine/Daisy (a town busybody) and Mrs Taylor show up, here the commotion and think that Bat Boy is in there, so Mrs Taylor sets it on fire. The sheriff, Dr Parker, and the townsfol arrive as a burned up Ron emerges and dies. The townsfolk more than ever want to kill Edgar.
Post-coital Edgar is hungry and Shelley offers herself for him to feed on. She tells him that as long as he feeds on her she'll always live INSIDE YOUR HEART, plus she's a fast healer. Meredith finds them and freaks out. She reveals that she's Edgar's mother, and Edgar horrified runs off.
Dying cows are heard in the distance and Edgar emerges with a severed cow head and covered in blood he sings APOLOGY TO A COW blaming everything that has happened on Meredith.
The entire town arrives and Meredith and Thomas are forced to tell the story of how Edgar was created: Meredith used to be Thomas' assistant, while Thomas was developing an experimental cattle solution filled with ferimones. He spills it on her by accident and drawn by it's potency, he rapes her. She runs off and on her way home is attacked by a flock of Bats. The bats also violated her. 9 months later she gives birth to Shelley and then to her shock to a half bat, half human creature. Thomas takes it away to kill it, but can't so he leaves it in a cave. Meredith, now unable to ever love Thomas again is forced to start a family with him for Shelley's sake.
Edgar states that he wishes he'd never been told he was human, and the angry townsfolk scream for Edgar's death (I IMAGINE YOUR UPSET)
Thomas, crazy and collapsing from the pressure of the townsfolk, slits his own throat to draw Edgar to him. Edgar jumps on him and Thomas starts stabbing Edgar with the knife. Meredith tries to save Edgar and is accidentally stabbed repeatedly by a maniacal dying Thomas. All 3 collapse and die leaving Shelly to pick up the pieces. The townsfolk have learned now, and they tell the morals of the story to the audience along with the victims (HOLD ME BAT BOY REPRISE)

Posted: 9/5/04 at 8:07pmIt's actually a wonderful show. It could have been terrible in the wrong hands, but it has well-developed characters, and a score that ranges from rap to gospel to opera.

Posted: 9/5/04 at 8:16pmBatBoy is one of the cleverest and most insanely delightful piece of theatre around. It has a GREAT score and funny, touching characters. Despite the fact that it's so overblown in terms of plot and wild "townies" it never loses its way. You always care about BatBoy and the show leaves a strong impression. It's wicked fun.
