I definitely agree with you. You could try to put together different fundraisers and things with your drama club! It can be fun and it goes to a great cause.
In high school, we were required to take this course about society. One of our projects was to do something that would better the community. Many people did food drives or donated stuffed animals to local children's hospitals. I put together a Broadway cabaret night where some of my friends from summer theatre and I sang and we were able to raise over $600 for BC/EFA.
I also made a box that I put at the box office at the summer theatre I do every year and all proceeds collected go to BC/EFA. This year was nice because we did Urinetown and during intermission Pennywise and Little Sally got to roam and mingle with the audience, in character of course. Since I was Little Sally, I brought out the box yelling "PENNY FOR A PEE?!" and was able to raise even more for Broadway Cares.
My boyfriend's college has an annual BC/EFA fundraiser. The kid who ran it just went around to Broadway theaters and asked if they'd like to donate anything, and he got a ton of signed windowcards and Playbills and stuff to auction.
I'm not sure if he had to clear it with BC/EFA. Sometimes you need approval before you can legally raise funds on behalf of a charity, but I don't know in this case.
Step 1: call Broadway Cares.
