I was considering applying as a transfer to NYU"s Dramatic Writing Program. I am an actor, but have always written alot and always planned on writing plays and stuff. I don't relaly have a desire to attend Tish for acting....but their writing program really entices me.
Anyone know if writing students can take some acting classes at Tisch?
as an actor...I think the main things I need to learn and work on is really just hardcore script analysis...something I would be doing anyway if I majored in writing....
What do you think of majoring in a theatre related field and its application to all of theatre????
Thanks.

bringing it to the top...srry really need info
you can take 2 credit acting electives like acting for non majors and alexander technique. they aren't very extensive and are mostly easy a classes.
i think majoring in dramatic writing would be useful but there are plenty of script analysis and playwrighting classes you can take as an acting major at NYU. then again, it is your decision and it's up to you with what you want to do with your education. if that's what you really want to do, i say go for it. but don't do it just because you're afraid of majoring in just acting. i'm an acting/directing major and i feel like i've spread myself too thin just because i wanted to make sure i had double the chance to succeed ... i'm also working twice as hard and feel like i'm not focusing in acting near as much as i should be. just my 2 cents. if you feel it's right for you, go for it!
