I haven't read much talk about BE on these boards. Are most of you going to see it or is going to be a bomb on Broadway?
It hasn't begun previews yet. There is absolutely no way of knowing. Advance sales are healthy. We will see. I have tickets for the 8TH, am looking forward to it after seeing it in London last year. If they didn't screw with it much to dumb it down it should do well.
I have tickets to see it twice already, I saw and loved it in London.
I don't really KNOW how it is selling but my parents were looking at tickets for a potential visit and... availability isn't all that great before Christmas. It looks like it is selling pretty well.
I'd like to thank them for having tickets at several price levels, because... I can't shell out 126 or 135 or whatever the top price is.
I for one can't WAIT for this. As was said, advance sales are strong and word is it's going to be the next big thing. It was/is HUGE in London. It's a fun, popular movie and Elton John did the music. Buzz is good, but I guess all we can can really do is wait and see

By some quirk, my ticket is for Octoer 4th matinee -- as I recall, BE had pushed its opening preview back and ergo, my ticket will be for an earlier performance (I guess the 3rd or 4th?) than I expected.
I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I LOVED the movie -- in its way, it ended up being a happy event once Billy has gotten to perform at Covent Garden (?). I can understand why there's 3 different people playing Billy -- he really has to carry the show. God bless all of them and here's hoping it will be a smash!!!!!
I am seeing it on Oct. 1st the first preview. I am actually glad it is not getting over hyped over here in the states. It is a British musical, which I think Broadway has been longing for , for a LONG LONG time.....
speaking o' Billy .... has there been a "which Billy when" schedule set yet?
Have most people on here who plan on seeing it gotten tickets already?
I want to see it and don't want to get shut out, but I'd rather not pay full price, either. That either means paying $125+ or sitting in the nosebleed section of the Imperial.

RE: Multiple Billys. Are the press going to see the show 3 times prior to opening for sake of comparison? At this point, none of them are what you'd call household names over here and I'm sure that every effort was made to get the very best possible. It's a tricky situation.

Billy is selling quite well especially when it has only print ads and group sales right now. TV will start later.
There was a recent ad showing when the best availabilty was and pretty much that would be weeknights after New Years.
The theatre it is playing, the Imperial, is much smaller than the London or the Sydney theatres where it played. The back of the mezzanine will be fine if that's the money you've got. It is hardly nosebleed. The theatre does not have a second balcony.
Nota bene: the back of the orchestra (stalls) is less than optimal with that multi-level set. The best view is the front mezz.
The Billy sked is kept under wraps and isn't posted until the day of at the theatre. You take your chances like every where else. There was a kid named Lachlan in Sydney who blew the audience away.
I have my ticket for October 11th. (I got one free for my birthday!) So I am very excited. I do hope it stays pretty close to the London show.

I found what I think to be one change from London to Sydney [possible spoiler, okay?].
Michael and Billy's showstopping number with the clothes in Act One has been expanded for the better and it really does stop the show.
So excited.
It's already on the sold out show list on Broadway Box.
It is definitely one of the hottest tickets on Broadway at the time.
They reserve most seats for premium tickets. For regular price, which is $120, you can only get a partial view or very far back seat.

Since Chitty Crashed and burned?
I don't think the thing about all the good seats being held for premiums is true, I got great seats for regular price during the presale (center orch) and people I know did too (front row mezz, also excellent for this show)
I'm sure they held some for premiums but I didn't have any trouble getting great seats at regular price back when they went onsale.
Now I'm wishing I'd bought another pair back then.
I personally think Chitty was a tacky kind of show to begin with there was not much to work with. Billy Elliot is already a success in Britain and Australia. Doesn't mean it will do well here. But it will.

I haven't been this excited about a new musical since, well maybe ever. I loved the movie, the London cast recording, and haven't been able to cross the pond recently.
Oct 4th for me, can't wait!

going back to the billy schedule, the productions in London and Australia have been very close with the BE forum posting the schedule of who is going on for which performances in a week advance. I am sure the the Broadway production will do the same.
I saw the show in London last April (keep in mind, I was not particularly a fan of the cast recording) and unless they have made significant changes, I predict a HUGE hit. It could pull another Producers and sweep up multiple Tonys as well as overshadowing most of the musicals this season. Honestly, it is one of the most perfect musicals I've ever seen. There was one tiny little insignificant bit of business that really needs to be cut, but other than that...flawless.

Mary Poppins is still running, right? I'm not sure Broadway was specifically "longing for" Woman in White, Chitty or Taboo, since they were rather unsuccessful (though I loved Chitty). But I am looking forward to seeing Billy Elliott again.

No one has been particularly longing for a British musical. We've all been longing for a good musical...BILLY ELLIOT is one.
I'll also be there Oct. 11th.
