On Thursday, April 14 at 8PM, Highlights in Jazz, New York´s longest running jazz series, brings together two outstanding jazz singers and songwriters, BLOSSOM DEARIE and DAVE FRISHBERG. These icons in the world of jazz and cabaret are both considered outstanding interpreters of the complete American songbook. MSN Music calls Mr. Frishberg, "Arguably the top living lyricist...has written more than his share of witty (yet insightful) classicsm, including ´I´m Hip,´ ´Peel Me a Grape,´´Dear Bix´...." Stephen Holden of The New York Times writes of Ms. Dearie´s, "highly discriminating taste in songs. She remains the definitive interpreter, at once fey and tough, of the pop-jazz satirist Dave Frishberg, as astute and unforgiving a social critic as exists. The songs of her own and other people´s date from all periods of a career remarkable for its longevity and for Ms. Dearie´ s stubborn independence and sly wit, which has never gone stale." The program also features the acclaimed tap dance group, the Young Hoofers.

I LOVE Blossom Dearie! Anyone who wants a delightful Jazz/cabaret album pick up her CD "Once Upon a Summertime!" They are ALL wonderful but that one is perfect for this time of year and I'm sure will make you a fan.

She has a very light, relaxed voice that is absolutely unique. She is a true interpreter, bringing her own spin to everything she sings! Her "Surrey With the Fringe On Top" is incredible!

Sorry for all the exclamation points-- I really love her!
