BOY FROM OZ CD
#0BOY FROM OZ CD
Posted: 7/10/03 at 1:01amI just saw the BOY FROM OZ cd at Virgin. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a demo? There was no info on the case, basically the title and song list. No cast at all. Is it any good? Is Hugh on this recording? Should I wait to get the OBC recording? So many questions! Any answers? (Oh, another question.) Will you forgive me?

Posted: 7/10/03 at 1:05amWasn't Hugh in that production? I was under the impression he had done it somewhere. Am I mistaken?

Posted: 7/10/03 at 1:06amNo, Hugh has never done the show before. It has only been done in Australia up to the point and Hugh was hired specifically for the Broadway production.

Wasn't there a workshop of the show on Broadway last year, with Hugh Jackman on it? Although, there is news that the Broadway production will see some rewriting of the original Australian stage production.
I have the Original Australian Cast recording album - and I was pleasantly surprised to find the musical score quite enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the opening of the show on Broadway.

Posted: 7/10/03 at 2:25amThey did a workshop to lure investors. Yes, it does feautire a reworked script to make it more palettable to American audiences.

The CD you saw would be of the original Australian cast and stars Todd Mc Kenny as Peter Allen. Todd Mc Kenny made his name as Billy Lawlor in the Australian 42nd Street. The Broadway production has a reworked script, the original was by Nick Enright ( a 1998 Oscar nominee, who died earlier this year of cancer). It is worth a listen, particularly for the 'Judy Garland' of Chrissie Amphlett (who was a rock singer who had an international hit in the early 90's with I Touch Myself) and for Jill Perryman who plays Peter Allen's mother. Jill Perryman is something of an Australian theatrical legend having created many of the roles that in the U.S were the property of Channing, Martin, Streisand and Louden.
Hugh Jackman can be heard on the Australian Cast CD of Beauty and the Beast (Gaston).

Posted: 7/10/03 at 9:47amOh I am sure they will make one. Then again...I guess it depends on reviews first...but the Aussie CD is really quite fun to listen to.
