Calling Graham Phillips! Paging Aaron Simon Gross! Are you out there, Corey Snide? All 3 of you guys get to this audition ASAP! Maybe you can be like the 3 Billy's, only the 3 Eugene's. I truly hope to see one of you, ANY of you, in this production. Hopefully you all age qualify. I am absolutely sure that any of you could play this part and be terrific! And no really high notes to sing! All you have to do is "put one foot in front of the other" and get to this audition. OK?
Graham Phillips would be great. But the first actor that comes to mind is Henry Hodges.
I'm so thrilled to hear there's going to be a revival of this show! It's one of my favorites.

Or how about an unknown? Like me
Even though I'm 19 (one year too old), I'm going anyway since if anything I look too young (people say I look 13-14).
Oh, and I actually am a Jew from Brooklyn.

I have known of Henry Hodges for awhile, but I have never actually seen him onstage. Thinking of the actors in "13" I did think of Henry, but I wasn't sure he met the age requirement. However, according to IMDb.com he is 15 years old.
You are right. He definitely has the right look for Eugene. Apparently he is now getting ready to play Jem in To Kill A Mockingbird with Matthew Modine in Hartford and then in Westchester. He is building up quite a set of acting credentials.
I really want to go, but I feel that I'm too tall (6'3') and too dark even though I am a Jew with lots of family from Brooklyn.
You have nothing to lose by going, Broadwayboy.
Who knows, maybe they will hold onto your resume and headshot and think of you for another production.
It can't hurt to just put yourself out there.
True facts.
I'm a few years too old to qualify for this audition, but I find it annoying that they are holding the auditon for such a Jewish-themed show on a Saturday, so that anyone who actually observes the Jewish religion would be unable to attend and put at the disadvantage of having to submit a picture and resume instead of being able to actually audition and show their talent.

Just give the role to Daniel Radcliffe or some other movie star. We know that's what you're going to do.

If you're going to go that route, then they would have to not have performances on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. Most reform Jews (and how many religious Jews pursue careers in acting, anyway?) do not observe Shabbos.

Not being an actor, I have no idea about this. When are auditions usually held? I would have thought on weekends. What would auditioning children and teens normally do? Skip school to go to midweek auditions? Or would mostly all interested young actors be home schooled these days?

Ya know what? For an audition for a lead role in a Broadway show, you might have to miss a day of school.

I know I would would. OK, Jon, I guess it was a silly question.
I imagine that they'll probably have callbacks during the week.
Hmm interesting discussion has ensued! There are plenty of auditions which occur during the week, and so yes people would have to miss school and/or work to attend the auditions. I thought it seemed a bit odd that this one wasn't, especially given the play involved.
To answer bwaylvsong, I think it does make sense for this show to not have Friday night performances, which I don't think this show's target audience would attend regardless of religious level. Also, it is entirely possible to have an 8 shows-a-week performance schedule without performances on Shabbat. If there were performances Monday through Thursday nights, and Saturday and Sunday evenings, as well as matinees on Sunday and Wednesday, that would be 8 performances and the actors get Fridays off each week as well as having the two show days spread out instead of packing them in on the weekend. So yes, it is plausible.
Does anyone actually know when callbacks will be?

Plausible, yes, but ridiculous to think that this show would not perform two of the most profitable performances of the week- Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.

When Israeli singer David "Dudu" Fisher, who is an Orthodox Jew, played Jean Valjean in the Broadway Les Miz, he had an alternate for Friday nights and Saturday matinees.
The producers liked him so much in the Israeli company that they wanted him on Broadway, even if it could only be for six performances a week. In Isreal, of course, there are no plays during the Sabbath.
I think that would be a far likelier scenario for this production. If they find someone they really want to cast who observes the Jewish Sabbath, they would have an understudy or alternate perform at those times.
His name was Dudu?
AGHH!!! I wish I had seen this before! I'm 15, and would've loved to try out! Would there be any point in sending in the resume and headshot now?

Why not still send it? Couldn't hurt!
And to those of you that went, how was it? How big was the crowd?
