AMONG STARS ANNOUNCED FOR
THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF 1945
ON APRIL 4 AT THE TOWN HALL
The next concert in the Broadway by the Year series, The Broadway Musicals of 1945, has announced the following cast (so far): Broadway stars Kerry Butler, Christiane Noll, Marc Kudisch, Noah Racey, Karen Mason, Eddie Korbich, and Nightlife Award winner Scott Ailing.
The BBTY series, which provides a musical snapshot of what has happening on Broadway in any given year will highlight the musicals of 1945 in its next concert. The most famous musical that year was Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel. But even if the other musicals that year are less well-known, their composers and lyricists are world renowned. The Broadway Musicals of 1945 will feature the work of Lerner & Loewe from their show The Day Before Spring, as well as the work of Kurt Weill & Ira Gershwin from their show The FireBrand of Florence. Sigmund Romberg & Dorothy Fields collaborated on Up in Central Park that year, as did Gould/Comden & Green for their show, Billion Dollar Baby.
Scott Siegel, the creator of BBTY is proud to welcome back musical director Ross Patterson and The Ross Patterson Little Big Band as well as director Gabriel Barre (MTC's The Wild Party) who directed the acclaimed first concert this season, The Broadway Musicals of 1929. Siegel notes, however, that "We don't have a formula. Each concert is realized afresh and we shape it around the music. The songs tell us what the show should be." Now in its fifth season, Broadway by the Year has tapped deeply into the Broadway talent pool and Siegel remarks, "I'm enormously gratified that so many of the stars who have been in past BBTY concerts keep expressing their desire to come back and do it again. We're delighted to welcome Kerry Butler, Christiane Noll, Karen Mason, and Scott Ailing to the club and deeply gratified that stars like Mark Kudisch, Noah Racey, and Eddie Korbich keep coming back for more."
There will be two more concerts after this in the Broadway by the Year season. The Broadway Musicals of 1955 on May 2 and The Broadway Musicals of 1962 on June 13. Limited seating is still available for the 1945 show and the two remaining concerts. The Town Hall box office at 123 West 43rd Street is open from noon to 6 PM every day except Sunday. Tickets are also available at TicketMaster.
