DREAMGIRLS has a good bit of pit singing. Most notably in 'Steppin to the Bad Side' with all the voices underlining Curtis and Wayne's dialogue about how they're going to get the Dreams to the top of the charts. Also, all the 'Showbiz, it's just Showbiz' bits are mostly sung by offstage voices. The Act II opener 'Deena', has a good bit of offstage chorus and solo work as well.
I almost forgot RAGTIME. 'New Music' and the 'Finale' were pretty much all sung from backstage.
