Posted: 1/3/07 at 7:56pmA friend told me that when B&tB was on tour Grant Norman(playing Beast) took her on a backstage tour. That would be so incredible! I'm going to see the AIDA tour tomorrow, hopefully I can get backstage!

I always thought it would be rude to ask a cast member to go backstage
But if you write them in advance its okay?
Interesting...I wish I knew that a little earlier on.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 8:04pmI would never ask, but my community is NOT theatre-savvy in the least, except for me. When I talk to people at school, even in drama class, they have never even heard of the stage door. So I think only me, and maybe a few other people, would be at the stage door after the show, so hopefully if I am nice enough they can take me backstage. But I would never mention it = )

I don't know if I could even have guts enought o write ahead and ask. I'm weird like that.
I went backstage at Wedding Singer. It was fun.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 8:12pmWell, my whole mentality is that its just a question so they have the choice whether to say yes or no especially since its in advance. I've only done it for a special occassion for my sister who adores Avenue Q.

I know what you mean, but look at it this way -- what's the worst that could happen? If they really don't want to do it they drop your letter in the trash and you don't hear anything back. As long as you can deal with waiting for a response and possibly not getting one, it seems less stressful than asking someone in person.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 9:30pmWell, I DEFINITELY wouldn't ask in person. I guess you have a point, though.

Yeah, dancing, I would never be able to ask in person either, I would...die, haha
But I might write in a letter, I dont know, if something special like if I'm taking someone for a birthday or something
I'd still feel rude, tho, even in a letter
especially asking Amy!

Would one write to them via the fanmail address, except addressing it to the stage manager?
We're seeing Les Mis for my sister's birthday, I'd love to get her backstage.

TWSFan- It wasn't really an organized tour. I got to go onstage and look around at all of the sets. I could've asked questions, but I couldn't think of any.

If it's a show that stars James Barbour and you are an underage female you have a good shot at getting a tour!!
Sorry I had to!!!!LOL

I met Kevin Cahoon at the stagedoor of the Hirschfeld in July, we talked about Ragtime. I wrote him later that month telling him who I was, what we talked about, sent him a picture, told him I was a theatre student, and asked if I could come backstage sometime. He said he remembered me, and obliged.
Somewhat of the same thing happened with Robin de Jesus when he was in RENT.
If you're memorable and amiable, write them, ask, and it'll happen.

I don't know which fanmail address you have, but you'd want to write to the theatre itself, not the general manager's office or something. Best bet would be to use the address printed in the listings in the back of the Playbill. At least that's where I habitually go to look up theatre addresses.

Posted: 6/25/07 at 9:48pmThe idea of writting a letter well in advance of the show was an excelent idea. I have already done it quite a number of times and have not been denied even once.
