Have any notable Broadway Productions had their Tryout in Baltimore? Just a thought that has come across my mind.

A Mother's Kisses with Bea Arthur and Hellzapoppin with Jerry Lewis both had pre-Broadway tryouts in Baltimore. Both closed out of town.

Didn't the original production of SKIN OF OUR TEETH try out in Baltimore?

Applause and Canterbury Tales were also early tryouts at the Mechanic. The Nederlanders and later Alex Cohen booked the theatre and a lot of their shows played there.

Before the Mechanic, was built the road house in Baltimore was Ford's Theatre which was torn down in about 1964.

Charm City theatre trivia - the last play to play Ford's was the rewrite of Milk Train in late 63 and starring a certain Miss Bankhead, and the last show to play there was the national tour of Forum in early 64.
