Saw TBV last weekend. Enjoyed it. Still think it's ONCE with an Israeli/Egyptian accent.
My question has to do with the cover of the Playbill.
At the top there are photographs of SEVEN members of the Band. But I'm sure that there were EIGHT on stage. (Four actors who played music and four musicians who acted a little). Can anyone explain?
My guess is last minute casting? Maybe someone originally played multiple instruments and they changed it? Or two people playing the same instrument?
I saw the first preview and I only counted 7 band members (acting and non-acting).

I read or heard somewhere that they did add a band member at some point (the drummer?).

I'm pretty sure that in the curtain call, there are 4 actors taking bows, while the other 4 band members sit behind them, and then the actors leave the stage and the musicians play 'one more number."
And there are two clarinets in the group -- by the end of the show they've proven that one can REALLY play -- the other acts, and plays a little.....
What is striking about the Playbill is that these are clearly photogs of the people on stage -- the cellist is very distinctive, in that he isn't tall, and has an amazing head of white hair -- he's clearly on the cover, as are others.
So it's confusing.

I think it might have been talked about here:

edit: not here but in the one below.
The picture on the show’s website has been changed to a blue motif, with Tewfiq and 7 band members. I’m assuming that the Playbills are still using the original artwork, which shows only 7 total, including Tewfiq.

Actually, in this interview Ari’el mentions adding a musician:
