She was simply glorious, and in superb voice. She's just back after spending "two months in bed." It was like twenty years had fallen away.
Songs by Gershwin, Rodgers, Porter, Weill, Mandel, Sondheim, etc.
Her "Goodbye John" by Alec Wilder was a heartbreaker.
She was funny, sassy, touching, wonderful.

Posted: 2/16/11 at 2:53pmArgh! Can she just record "Goodbye John" already? It's ridiculously good, at least, it was at Avery Fisher a while back-- and judging from this report, it must still be good!

Hmmm...how about a "Barbara Cook Sings the Alec Wilder Songbook"?
While We're Young
I'll Be Around
It's So Peaceful In The Country
Good-Bye, John
The Echoes Of My Life
Is It Always Like This?
The Lady Sings The Blues
Trouble Is A Man
Blackberry Winter
They would all sound so beautiful in her voice.

Very well thought out PJ! Makes me mellow just thinking about some of those selections.
I saw Barbara in concert with Audra McDonald @ the Kimmel Center a few seasons ago. Great chemistry as well as a mutual admiration society going on between them. The audience was melting in their seat by the end of the night. A real love affair!
