Barbara Cook as Mary Sunshine?!

That was just one startling fact that jumped out at me when I read Kevin Winkler's new book "Big Deal: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical." Apparently Barbara was on the casting list in 1975 when they were considering actresses to play Mary Sunshine. I don't know if she was approached or ever considered taking the role, but that sure would have been interesting. The book is very well-written and researched, and it concentrates more on Fosse's work than the other two bios I've read. It doesn't shy away from Fosse's dark side, but it also celebrates his accomplishments. I really enjoyed it.

Barbara Cook as Mary Sunshine?!

Thanks for the recommendation. I may check it out. Speaking about Fosse's dark side, I remember reading the Fosse bio and it was a real visceral experience. In the end, I felt so grossed out by it due to a lot of his behavior. I know it was a different time and he had demons and all, but it's a real eye-opener about the culture at the time. He's still a genius and tortured soul and all that, but it really was something to read.
