I'll keep it breif. Barbara Cook is my favorite singer of American popular music and last night's performance at Avery Fisher Hall proved why. She is simply a marvel. She sang some of her old standards ("A Wonderful Guy", "Till Their Was You", a devestating "Send in the Clowns") while trying some new material out ("I've Got You Under My Skin" and a devestating song I regret to say I had never heard of before last night called "Goodbye John"). It was a memorable evening of music enhanced by the spirited music direction of Lee Musiker. Cook is brilliant and last night was unforgettable.
If anyone else was in attendance, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I was there the second night, sitting in incredible seats four rows from the stage. The Pops had a fantastic pre-sale offer for $35 orchestra seats. I still can't believe she's 82, because she looked and sounded incredible! It was just a stunning performance. And what an incredibly kind and genuine woman she is...
