TBaby, THE CENTRAL PARK CONCERT as we see it on the TV special and album is only about HALF of what she performed. And ALL of it was taped & recorded!!!

How is That Streisand Woman going to be in Chicago and New York when she has told her family that she refuses to step foot into a plane since the 9/11/01 tragedy? At least that's the excuse she gave for not attending her own mother's funeral. She e-mailed her condolences to the family. The woman's all heart!

I love Miss Streisand, but the things that I have heard about her over the years are terrible....How sad, she did not go to her mother's furenal......Some of this stuff is hard to believe, but I still try to focus on her great talent and not gossip.......It is hard to figure out what is true and what is just plain lies........
I don't know how Barbra is getting to Chicago or NYC, but I do know that she and her husband drive across the country a lot and up to Canada. They like Road Trips, so for all any of us know they could be driving.
Also, her mother died a couple of years ago. She could have gone to a lot of therapy sessions since then and semi-gotten over her fear of flying.
DP, you shouldn't judge people by rumors and/or word of mouth. For all you know she could be really nice. Just because Carol Channing hates her (and all because Barbra got a movie role that she wanted) is no reason for you to hate her. Disliking someone because you personally have met them, or have listened to their musi, or watched their movies, and honestly don't like them is one thing; but going with someone elses reactions just makes you a follower.
Yeah, I don't really indulge in personal rumors like that, Dollypop. I like the way she sings, ya know? It's none of my business whether she attended funerals or not.

I disagree with Music man and his opinion on the size of early Barbra's voice...
Watch Barbra's duets with Garland ...she is literally holding herself back..
Now, Garland at that point may have seen better days vocally but the heft of that voice wasn’t all gone and yet...Streisand sensed she could overpower her and held back (note for the Streisand haters; Miss Garland’s own daughter was never as kind to her mother when singing with her as Barbra was...)..
There is no way that Peggy Lee or Dinah Shore or even Ella had the same vocal heft as early Streisand….it wasn’t a huge voice (Merman)but it had a more than significant amount of heft and was loaded with squillo (ping)…
…and if any arrangers had to work judiciously around her range, I’ll eat my hat….play “When the Sun comes out” off of the second album…. I think she ends it on a non-chest voice high A or B!
Soprano High A or B!
True her low notes were not her forte but who cares when one had a middle and top like this…

I happen to work with That Streisand Woman's cousin and down through the years have become fairly close to her. The stories I've heard are not innuendo; they're horribly true. My co-worker put up That Streisand Woman in her lean years and now the Diva doesn't even have the courtesy to respond to wedding invitations. I also get to see Barbra's annual Christmas Card. Why does a Jewish woman send Christmas cards to her Jewish relatives?
Yeah, well I happen to know someone related to someone famous (I don't want to name the celebrity), and that person doesn't like her (her own cousin). Now I know this celebrity personally, and she is incredibely nice. Just because her own cousin doesn't like her doesn't impare my judgement. Again, I don't go by rumors, even if they are coming from the person's family.
I have a copy of Barbra singing "At The Codfish Ball" (introduced by Shirley Temple in CAPTAIN JANUARY) in what is supposed to be her RCA demo tape from 1961-62. The voice is pretty damn huge with a very full sound.
As Garland said to her, "You really sing OUT...you really BELT a song. There are very few of us left."
Anybody go to the taping of the ACTORS STUDIO/James Lipton thingy last night??
Spill the beans!!

Once it was Barbra..
Then Madonna..
now J-Lo..
I'm talking about the media's need to humiliate and chastise women who know what they want, don’t really care what people think and do as they damn well please…
Of course with Barbra they knew there was this overwhelming talent so they picked on everything from her looks to her money to her ego.
Madonna and J-Lo have not fared as well. They have had to defend everything from being promiscuous (whose business really is that anyway…) to defending whatever talent they did have…
Had any of these women pretended to be more vulnerable or yes, less intelligent, than they may have had an easier time with the press.
Of course J-Lo is more street smart and business savvy than anything else but Madonna and Streisand were excellent students in High School and in Madonna’s case, a recipient of scholarships not once but twice.

Then why does the media love Cher so much?
She may not have Barbras' voice, Madonnas desperation or Lopez' Latina following. But Cher has several qualities the other three could use a lot of - self-awareness, agreeability to ones co-workers and the ability to laugh at herself.
I saw a clip of Cher last night of her performing "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" at the Tony's (must have been from the mid-80s? - don't know exactly when) and though she may not have had Mary Martin's wide-eyed faux-innocence (Nah, I can't imagine Cher pulling THAT for a minute), she was terrific.
And I will always cherish her appearance on Larry King during the 2000 election, being very clear-eyed and passionate (with not a trace of the pomposity that Barbra - sadly - can fall into) about the dangers of a Bush II presidency.

True! Cher is not known to be as difficult as the above ladies..and there does seem to be a straight shooter quality to her that in interviews is great!
All the women above lack that quality!
In the 70's and 80's she had a love/hate thing with the press but I think after Sonny's death and her 17th comeback..well...ya gotta give credit where it is due...
Now if they can get her off the never ending world tour...(it's amazing...she lists a date and they tickets go in minutes..even if she played the town before)
..maybe a return to Broadway or an album of standards can come about...

I love Cher, Madonna, Miss Streisand, all of the Great Divas, but I have noticed that there ia alot of hate for J LO...I don't understand why....Like Miss Streisand, she gets alot of bad press.......But I think Miss Streisand doesn't kiss ass and does not take an **** from anyone.....This rubs people the wrong way......If this is a BITCH, then every successful woman is one......Sweet women don't make it in life.......It takes these stronge women like Cher and Miss Streisand to take control and tell some of these men what to do........If you have talent, power and money, you can do this.....and these women do.......
