I haven't seen the show, but I've read summaries. Bare's a show about a present day private Catholic high school. Two of the characters, Jason and Peter, are roommates and secret lovers. Jason's the All-American type jock who's the king of his domain and high school and afraid that any word getting about him and Peter will stain his reputation. Throw in supporting characters Nadia, Jason's sister - a very insecure girl about her wait, Matt, the straight character in love with the school's most popular girl Ivy, and of course Ivy, played by a friend of mine, who's the stereotypical Catholic slut who lures Jason to bed and gets pregnant. Oh, and there's a Motown singing Virgin Mary.
I know there's profanity and very adult situations, I don't know about nudity. I'm excited to see it again because the music is amazing. If the sixteen year old doesn't mind the controversial issues and is into contemporary musicals, then this is a good show.
Yes, please take your 16 year-old! I think it's an important show, ESPECIALLY for teenagers. I think (s)he would love it. It's like Rent for a new generation.
The plot: in a co-ed Catholic boarding school, two senior boys fall in love. Along with their peers, a group of teenagers also going their own emotional crises, they struggle with how to reconcile their sexuality, religion, and life in a world that's "quick to judge." It's a musical about the difficulties of being an adolescent in this day and age.
No nudity, but a scene where one actor strips down to his boxer briefs. Nothing a 16 year-old hasn't seen (in fact, it's probably tame by today's teenager standards).
