Bare Naked Lads/Naked Boys Singing

Okay, so I've read a few posts about the shows in Provincetown this summer and how their cast of Naked Boys SInging is amazing and Jeff Stryker's there and Rue McClanahan yada yada yada

But, I noticed that there's also a show called "Bare Naked Lads". Its a naked musical revue. How is that any different from "Naked Boys Singing?" I'm confused. It sounds like a total copy-cat show. Can't they get in trouble for doing that? Wouldn't it be like if I wrote a musical about a chubby girl in the 90's fighting for gay rights and I called it "Shampoo?" I haven't seen the show so if some one could elaborate on the difference or how it came to be I'd appreciate it.

It's very similar, though I saw a Christmas performance called Bare Naked Lads Save Christmas. I think Naked Boys Singing is 100 times better, though BNL had some funny and touching moments in the show. I believe BNL is playing at the Bailiwick Theatre in Chicago.

The cast of BNL in P Town is not all that attractive- sorry. I saw them handing out flyers after the tea dance. Looks like a total ripoff of NBS.

I know Bare Naked Lads started in Chicago once Naked Boys Singing closed as a sort of follow-up show with different numbers. They usually change it up every year or so with different songs and themes. There was Naked Lads in the Great Outdoors, a Christmas show, and the newest is Naked Lads on Broadway. The concept of all the shows have been popular in Chicago, but I guess people got tired of the same songs every night and NBS eventually closed. Most of the cast for Naked Lads is actually from NBS.

Deena- I'm sorry to disagree with you but I think the cast of BARE NAKED are better looking than the Naked Singing Boys...specially the guy on my right (with red scarf) he is soo dreamy. For me- I like "men" rather than "boys" - just a personal preference.. Im too "old" for those naked singing boys ! (just kiddin'-of course-Im married !! )

I saw the Great Outdoors one because a friend was in it.

The girl did not get naked. At all. Anyone surprised? Haha.

I vote the Naked Boys cast (assuming thats only part of them). The Lads has that one cute boy, but on a whole the Naked Boys win. How cute :)

But the real question is which cast is more talented

I've never seen a production of NBS, only heard the music. In order for the show to work, the boys better be good-looking and great singers, because the music is pretty horrible.

Yup- there's two guys missing in the NBS cast- which one of them is really cute.

but the LADS- the guy in my right (left on your computer's view) is really gorgeous and very nice in person..lean muscular & just beautiful.. I guess the NBS are cuter bec. theyre younger-(21-25 yrs old) and the LADS are more built & muscular but also older (30s - around my age -which I prefer

Ive seen all of them in person...but I have not seen their shows yet, which I will review in my 10/10 Report on P-Town for Parts 2 and 3...but that LAD on my left - really stands out- .. The first thing Ive noticed is him in those
low low waist Goonch brief...wouldn't you ?? He is probably 5'11 ...hmmm..

The guy all the way on the right in the second picture is a really talented dancer.

I saw BNL in the Great Outdoors in October-ish (after my friend replaced on of the other men and did the christmas show, but decided not to come to P Town). He explained to me that BNL is a kind of follow-up to NBS which was at the Bailiwick a couple years ago.

The Chicago company of "Naked Boys Singing" didn't close, they were shut down. They weren't paying royalties for (i believe) over a year...They were doing the show illegally and, naturally, they got shut down. A few months later the Bailiwick wrote their own show "Barenaked Lads". They can call it a "follow-up show" all they want...but the fact of the matter is after they got shut down they copied the idea (remember, you can't copyright an idea) and put up a "copy-cat" version.

I'm all for keeping theater alive, but don't do the show if you can't pay the rights. And, better yet, don't steal other people's ideas.

Leave it to Jaystarr to keep us notified of any gay, male oriented theatre. Perhaps he should go write for The Advocate. He certainly likes his name , and now his face in print. I thought we already had a Michael Reidel.
