Seeing this next month and I can't wait!
I went to Donna Magliaccio's cabaret performance last night (it's the last night for that and I HIGHLY recommend going… she's HILARIOUS and can sing her face off), and since her show didn't start until 8:30 I was able to see the first 15 minutes of Cabaret from the TVs in the lobby. I loved what I saw!
I decided that I wanted to see the Cabaret again, mostly to hear Barrett Wilbert Weed sing because she gave me goosebumps when I saw it the first time. When I went to buy tickets, I discovered that Signature Theatre has a new swanky website. I am not sure about the repeating video of Wesley Taylor popping out of the door---I think I almost had a seizure--but overall I was impressed.

Check out this recording of Barrett singing Cabaret. She's perfect in every way. A nice difference from all the actresses in Mendes who just scream the song with no arc.

Holy cow. Just came home from this.
I am just amazed. Barrett Wilbert Weed is fricken incredible. Her "Maybe This Time" and "Cabaret" were just… they made me speechless. And Wesley Taylor. Just… wow. I literally cannot explain how much fun we had seeing this show. Every single person on that stage was incredibly talented (and I will NEVER complain about seeing Bobby Smith at that stage… he seems to be in every show I see at the Sig).
Definitely one of the best productions I've seen at that theatre. I am so impressed!

Thank God for bootlegs... especially with a production like this that I'm never going to see.
I'll go in with the group that thinks the ending as described seems excessive. I found the Mendes version in the most recent revival plenty affecting. And also there's a point where that attempt to really shock or emotionally affect the audience instead distances. The way it's described it sounds more objectifying, not just because of the nudity but because of the brutal violence against a particularly vulnerable woman who has little bearing on the plot.

You didn't see it so your opinion is rather pointless. The ending is far more successful then the Mendes ending which leaves one wondering why we have jumped forward in time to a concentration camp and why Mendes felt the need to murder the Emcee and turn the character into something three dimensional when he is only meant to be an omnipotent presence.

It's not like they just stood on stage and beat the woman to death for 10 minutes. It was actually extremely effective in making the audience think and realize that this show wasn't just about the emcee going around smacking womens asses all night. And she was in the show as more than a KitKat dancer. I'm not familiar with other versions as I have only seen the movie, but coming from the perspective of someone seeing the show for the first time, it didn't seem like she was just this random woman getting beaten up at the end. I continually saw her from the first number (she stood out from the other girls), and she had that number where she was in a gorilla suit, etc. I'm not sure if it's because I noticed right away how different she looked and just had a feeling that she would be involved more in the plot than just one of the girls.
