Who else is ready for this one?! I can't wait for the casting to be released! I will be upset if Hollywood doesn't use Deven May.

I think it should be animated. re: Bat Boy the movie Musical Not nessicarily CGI either....old school animation might be pretty cool. I dunno. with the rush of movie musicals coming out in the next few years, it might need something special about it to stand out (even if it IS bat boy: the movie musical...lol)

haha. I do question if it will work. I know the general public with question, "What the F?" But I love the show and am very surprised and excited for a film of it. It will take very smart marketing I feel.

we'll have to wait and see. I do have a bad feeling that dreamgirls and sunset will not be big box office successes, regardless of how good of movies they are, and the movie musical will take a downward spiral after that. so bat boy may get a bad break. who knows....

The project should be picking up speed soon.

I finally saw Standing Ovations 2 and heard the song "Mine, All Mine." It's a good song, but it's hard to imagine it in the show replacing "Inside Your Heart."

I wonder if they'll continue to revamp the story for the screen. Isn't the London production totally different?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Yes, it is. This past February I was in a production of Bat Boy and our stage manager brought in the London Cast recording....a lot of it sounds very different. Tempos are changed, words are changed, and as you pointed out, some songs are replaced. Not sure why so many changes were made to a show that obviously has a strong following, but I guess they thought they were needed. I prefer the original much more.

I liked the tempo changes in the London verson. And sure if it's London, then some things would need to be changed such as lyrics for a different cultural references. I also think that if you are still working on a show then you should always be willing to make it better, and it's a very brave choice to change entire songs.
But I do wonder how much the shape will change with the movie. I recently read on IMDB.com that the movie to Proof has a whole list of other characters added to help cinemize it which makes me sad since it was such a powerful piece only containing 4 actors. I hope with Bat Boy they are able to keep the ensemble aspect of slight costume changes for characters...it might be interesting to see the same people playing different parts on film.
