The Metropolitan Room hosts the fourth annual "Metrostar Talent Challenge" beginning Monday, July 11, 2011, with a grand finale on Monday August 29th, 2011.

The Competition Spans Eight Consecutive Mondays
TRIALS: July 11, 18, 25.
QUARTER FINALS: August 1st
SEMI FINALS: August 8th
FINALS (1st round): August 15th
FINALS (2nd round): August 22nd
FINALE: Winner Announced August 29th

What The Winner Receives
The grand prize-winner (to be announced the night of the finale on August 29th) will win a fully produced, prime time booking at the Metropolitan Room and a professionally produced live recording of their upcoming show. MetroStar's career-boosting package of prizes and professional encouragements is worth around $10,000. The club will also engage several well-known professionals and artists to collaborate with the winner. The first and second runner-ups will also be invited to open for the winner on alternate evenings and each will receive a live demo of their performance.

Contest Details:
An accompanist will be provided for each round. Contestants may choose to use the house accompanist, bring their own, or accompany themselves.

Trials - 1st Round (July 11, 18, 25)
The judges and audience score each singer. The scores are tallied at the end of each evening and the top five from each night move on to the next round.

Quarter Finals (August 1)
A total of 15 performers compete in the quarter-finals. Each contestant will perform one new song. The judges narrow this group down to five semi-finalists who will be asked to prepare two new songs as well as a pre-selected common song for the following week. (Contestants are given full license to develop their own individual arrangement and interpretation for the songs chosen.)

Semi Finals (August
The ten semi-finalists perform two songs each. Five of the ten contestants will be chosen to move on to the 1st round of finals.

Finals - 1st Round (August 15)
The five finalists compete in the first round of finals and are asked to sing one brand new song and also repeat one of the three songs sung in the prior weeks. In this round the contestants will be given a common song that they must make their own.

Finals - 2nd Round (August 22)
The five finalists return to perform a set comprised of their own selection and the judge's two selections, woven together with patter.

Finale – 2011 MetroStar Winner Announced (August 29th)
The top 5 finalists will perform one final song. The judges will score them and the final results will be announced, with the second runner-up, first runner-up and grand prize-winner introduced in that order.

The evening will also feature performances from some of Cabaret's finest performers.

Judges
Two well-known figures in the cabaret world will serve as judges throughout the Eight-week competition. They will be joined each week by a different celebrity guest judge. (One or two of the celebrity judges may return for a second week). The same celebrity judge (s) will return for the 2nd round of finals. Throughout the challenge, audience members' voting will be factored in. Each audience member will receive two ballots at the beginning of the contest.

Eligibility
"Metrostar" will welcome solo singers and vocal duos from a cross-section of musical categories.from jazz and cabaret, to folk, pop and rock -- Applicants will be pre-screened and approximately 60 performers will be selected to compete. The competition is open to both seasoned and up-and-coming performers who have not played a major engagement at The Metropolitan Room.
