The Lunt still has an ample castle set, in the mold of the Palace set. The recent 3NT was even more scaled-down, with the scrims of stairs and sliding panels as the castle.

Another change, which I didn't care for, was the use of the "fire extinguisher" smoke and exploding ribbons at the end of "Be Our Guest" instead of the fabulous sparklers. Anyone know why they changed this at the Lunt?

As far as scrims in the Lunt version, I believe there are exactly two. There is the scrim with the Beauty and the Beast logo, that is in place when the audience enters and is in for the Prologue and comes in again at intermission and finale. There is a scrim of the woods and the castle in the background that is used for the scenes with the wolves and during the "Mob Song". If you are talking about backdrops, there are a lot in the show, but many physical settings rolling in and out as well. The Lunt version is not as big as the Palace version was, but is still a very big show.
