Did anyone else attend Saturday night's performance of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Lyric? While the formidable cast did an excellent job in their respective roles, frequent problems with the audio made the evening quite painful to endure. I had been somewhat leery from the start of attending a Disney production produced by an outside company, and came away even more entrenched in that stance. The problems started from the opening number, when my wife and I (sitting in the fifth row) began hearing some pretty bad hissing from one or two of the actors' mics. The problem persisted in spurts throughout the night, particularly with the mics of Lumiere and Gaston. There was also a separate mic issue throughout the entire performance that made it extremely difficult for us to decipher what the actors were saying. I'm not sure if this was an issue with the production or the Lyric, itself, but the clarity of the voices was far worse than anything I've seen at the Hippodrome. We left feeling quite gypped -- that we had been cheated out of a first-rate performance by the company's inability to resolve technical issues.
