Belle's End of Act 2 Dress
Belle's End of Act 2 Dress#1

Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone knew when they decided to add a new dress for Belle to wear for the second half of Act 2. Before she used to wear the blue one, but now it seems they have made a green dress. Does anyone know when this changed happened and why? Just curious!
Thanks!

Posted: 6/29/07 at 10:20amAt the end of Act 2 Belle wears a checkered dress covered by a scarlet cloak when she goes back to the village (A Change and Me) through the Gaston/Beast fight scene and the transformation. Then she changes into the gold ballgown. If you wanna see what the checkered dress looks like watch the BATB preview video on this site and during A Change in Me you will see it.

They must have used it when the song 'A Change In Me' was originated in 1998 for Toni Braxton.
Mind you, I saw a clip of Toni Braxton singing the song when she was in the show and what's strange is that she was wearing a Pink dress with a cloak and the locket on instead.
I knew at the time for her entering the show, all of the Belle Costumes were re-designed for her to look 'Braxton-Style' as I was told a while ago, but I didn't think they would use a Pink one.
So they must have changed it for the actress' that came after Toni Braxton i.e. Andrea McArdle, Sarah Litzsinger & Anneleise Van Der Pol.

Close. Actually, the green dress (checkered blouse and solid skirt) that you are describing was the original design for Susan Egan at the Palace in 1994, even before A Change In Me was in the show. There was only one copy of that dress ever made. Any actress since who has been able to fit in it has worn it from the scene where Belle and Maurice return to their front yard through the Transformation. No understudies have ever worn it, that I know of. If the actress playing the role is too big for it (and most are), they just go back to the Act One blue dress, but with the torn sleeve repaired. (I suppose Mrs. Potts sewing staff must have fixed it after Belle took it off for the library scene.)
