Belting endings

I was thinking about this yesterday while listening to various recordings (not at the same time...) and this is probably a stupid question, and it probably doesn't matter at all to most of you, but you know how different performers end their belts differently? Like Sutton Foster stops after "LOOOVE" note but Adam Pascal does this whole braaaa-AYVE thing.

I didn't think it mattered which way you ended a belt until one of my ex-directors told me that it does. And yet he failed to mention which kind of ending is preferable. Now I'm not really sure to trust this guy, he's the director who told a group of 5th graders they had to lose weight in order to be fairies in Peter Pan......

So I decided to come and ask here. does it matter? I can't see how it would...
