Belting help — Page 2

I don't tire easily. I think my cords are pretty resiliant. I don't feel any pain when I let go. I mean, yeah I know the vocal quality slips some if I haven't properly warmed up, but...Other than that, no...I don't feel any pain and yes I feel like I'm holding myself back. Again, I feel like a little girl singing a solo for the first time at her kindergarten recital.

Okay, I have to say that she's been great for breathing. God, for three months we didn't sing. We breathed. On our back, on our knees, hands over the head...We would then do these exercises where we would make an audible sound. A "Ha" on a given pitch. When we would mae the "Ha" sound she instructed me to pull in my belly as far as I could. This was to train my belly muscles, I guess.

She's been good for tone. I've learned about letting my air up into all of the empty caveties in my head. I have learned that I have proper tone when I can feel vibrations in my head. Which is a good thing considering that I"m mostly deaf in my left ear and so I find it very hard to detect the ambiance of my voice. I don't hear in stero. Mostly mono.

Ummm. A third...Um warming up. She put me in touch with a great product called "The Vocal Coach". They're very Christian, but if you can get past that their warm up CD's are wonderful.

My big complaint is with Strongest Suit. That's a song to be PUSHED OUT THERE, you know? No no...We must sing it like...like...I can't even describe it. It's like...Soft. Sweet.

She says she doesn't like the "quality" that belting gives me. My voice is so "pretty" when I don't belt. She doesn't know Broadway at all. Not that it can't be pretty. But some of it just isn't. I mean, really...Would you call LuPone's voice "pretty"? It's amazing, yeah...But not "pretty".
