Ben Folds

The man is on his world tour.

I am wondering, who here appreciates his work?

It will be my first experience with ben (live) when he comes to MY town. I gotta tell you, im very excited. Feeling like a kid on christmas eve.

I hear amazing things about him live, though I have never experienced a concert myself. And while his solo stuff has sort of passed me by, I LOVE the Ben Folds Five albums.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

re: Ben Folds

if you can, get a hold of some of he's EP's or even 'Rockin the Suburbs'. He has completely departed the '5' sound. But has proven (to me atleast) why the band was what it was. Brilliant stuff!

re: Ben Folds

I love Ben Folds in any incarnation. He is one of the only pop/rock writers out there who should try his hand at writing a musical.

I love Ben Folds.
I saw him in the park last summer.
And, despite the fact that it was raining, and I had no umbrella...it was a lovely, lovely time.

re: Ben Folds

He did a summer tour with Tori Amos in 2003. I would have loved to have seen that but it didn't leave the US and I was too poor to fly at that point.

I think Ben Folds is amazing. I have most of his CD's. For someone getting started I would recommend "Rockin the Suburbs" or his Live CD, which has a nice mix from all his albums. His songs are so smart and sing-alongable. I have heard that he actually studied musical theatre and was an actor for a while before hitting it big with Ben Folds Five. I'll be he would be a great theatre composer. If you don't know his stuff, do yourself a favor and check it out!

Shockingly Popcultureboy, I missed the Ben Folds/Tori tour too but I have seen him in concert and loved him! :) Fantastic live performer, great lyricist and always gives a great show!

Ben Folds is a genius. It's that simple.

Love love love love him. I even love the astoudingly tasteless dance remake of "Brick" that graced a horriffic dance compilation a while back.

The Ben Folds Five album "Whatever & Ever, Amen" is getting reissued with some bonus tracks on Stephen Sondheim's birthday. Pick it up!

re: Ben Folds

"Brick" as dance music? Horrifying indeed.

Rockin' the Suburbs was my addiction for most of last semester- just a great album all the way through, and I don't often say that about contemporary artists.

re: Ben Folds

I've got "Still Fighting It" playing on iTunes at this exact moment. AMAZING songwriter.

re: Ben Folds

Didn't he go by Ben Folds Five? Whatever happened to the Five?

re: Ben Folds

there were three of them- ben, jesse, and robert. they decided they had made all the music they could, and split. i enjoy ben's solo work just as much as the work with the 5. as a metter fact i have a ben folds poster behind me. "the last polka" is my favourite right now.

re: Ben Folds

I LOVE Ben Folds! I saw him in concert a few years ago (Ben Folds and a Piano) and he was great. His album Ben Folds Live gives a good taste of his music so you should check that out if you haven't. And the version of Tiny Dancer on that cd was recorded at the concert I attended! So you can probably hear me screaming in the background. re: Ben Folds

re: Ben Folds

i LOOOOOOVE me some Ben Folds. i saw him summer of '03 in Newport, RI, just him and a piano. it was amazing, i had great seats...he did a cover of George Michael's "careless whisper" that i still hear in my head. I saw him again this past summer with guster and rufus wainwright. my head almost exploded it was too good to be true. they all did their own stuff seperately, rufus performed with guster, and ben played BEN FOLDS FIVE stuff with Guster!!! so good sooooo goooooooood.

when i saw him this summer he played "Gracie" from his upcoming album and it brought a tear to my eye.

i cannot wait for the new album.

re: Ben Folds

Just bumping it up?
For those of you who "fileshare," there's such an amazing live recording of Ben and Rufus Wainright dueting on George Michael's "Careless Whisper."
I play it on Tobey (my Ipod) every morning on the way to work.

I saw Ben at Ravinia in Chicago and he was awesome, just too short of a set.

re: Ben Folds

Yes! Amazing musician. I'm still sad I missed seeing him when he toured with Guster and Rufus Wainwright.

I love all of the Bens, really... Folds, Kweller, Lee, and Harper.
