Ben Strothmann is a fantastic N.Y. photographer who does headshots, and did the dozens of portraits that once accompanied my ''Leading Men'' column at Playbill.com, as well as the ''Playbill Yearbook.'' Plus, others of you might know Ben as Honey LaBronx, the vivacious, vegan drag queen on YouTube. But he's making his official debut as the playwright/author of ''Virtual Memory,'' which will wrap up HOT! The NYC Celebration of Queer Culture, on Friday, Aug. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie St., NYC.
Ben will regale you with riotous stories about growing up LGBT. As a kid, he says he discovered he was gay when he started developing crushes on cartoon characters, like Foghorn Leghorn and the Pink Panther. And then there's the time when Ben openly declared his love for another boy ... in first grade. As an grownup, Ben candidly recalls his adult adventures in New York's ''sexual playground.''
If you didn't know Ben before this 80-minute, one-man show, you'll come away feeling you've made a fun, new friend. He previewed it a few years ago at Judson Memorial Church as part of its ''Magic Time'' series, so I'm thrilled he's brought it back.
