Ben Vereen as Pilate?

Ben Vereen's to play Pontius Pilate in Musical Theatre of Houston's production of JCS this August. Two shows August 19 & 20.

I would have thought he'd be cast as Herod instead...

On a thread-related note:

At Ben's age, this is a splendid casting choice, and in addition, this casting continues in the rich tradition of JCS veterans helping out the smaller theater community (Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, Yvonne Elliman, and Paul Ainsley with CYT; Danny Zolli, Elliman, and Barry Dennen with UTEP; Neeley, Ben Vereen, Elliman, and Dennen with YTA, etc.). I agree that Herod is a more likely choice for Vereen, but maybe they wanted something less likely.

Is it the Musical Theater of Houston or the Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Canada?

Maybe somebody should ask Des McAnuf.

I'm sure Ben Vereen will do a fine job as Pilate.

He's just such a song and dance guy, and that ain't no dancin' role.
