Ben Wright or Adam Wylie?

Who was the better Jack in INTO THE WOODS?
Hands down, I have to give it to Ben. At first, the only ITW I had seen was the revival, but even then I had listened to the OBCR and when I heard Adam sing...it just didn't do anything for me.
I think Ben really had the character down and played it MUCH better than Adam. And when comparing voices, Ben is far superior. At least, in my opinion he is.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 5:48pmI adore Ben Wrights performance. Judging by the DVD he is so comfortable in his own body up there, and just looks like he belongs on stage. Perfect performance in my opinion.

I know it's extremely rare in threads of these types to have an opinion based on actually seeing both performances in question live and in the flesh. Having said that, I liked both equally, they both had their strengths.
Too often in this country, ideas are posed as either/or when no "choice" or "winner" is necessary.

BEN WRIGHT.
By far.
Leaps and bounds.
His voice is far superior, and I just don't think Wylie could carry the part as well.

Did anyone else see Adam Wylie in the Disney movie "Under Wraps"...?
I remember I almost saw ITW because of him in that movie - this was before I was into the theatre...and thought "how cool to see a (made-for-Disney-Channel) movie star live on stage.
But, I was also unable to drive and no one wanted to take me

Having only heard Adam Wylie - id say he did a good job. He looks and sounds the part to me. I'm kind of impartial on the song "Giants in the Sky" - I don't think id like it no matter who sang it. But I just got the revival CD like two weeks ago and i'm obsessed with Vanessa Williams - the song "Stay with me" has me captivated, I dont know why, but its amazing. Anyone know if this revival won any awards or if any of the cast members did?
PS
Thanks BSoBW2 - I was wondering where I knew Adam from - haha.

Oh my God, again with this crazy talk??
I wish they'd revive it, too, but honestly guys...enough is enough.
I don't know what all this talk of Adam Wylie is, but I can say, speaking for myself and for bythesword84, that Ben Wright is perfection on that song and that too many people who should not go near that song do...and it is painful.
That is all.
And for Chad Kimball, the end of the song goes: "And you think of all of the things you've seen, and you wish that you could live in between."

BEN WRIGHT ALL THE WAY!
Not only does Adam Wylie's singing hurt MY soul, but also my ears as well. I've seen him on TV in things where he is perfectly wonderful. He just wasn't in INTO THE WOODS.

Posted: 11/6/05 at 8:06amI have never heard Adam Wylie sing this song, but I must say that I am in love with Ben Wright's voice. I could listen to "Giants in the Sky" over and over with him singing it. His voice gives me chills. I can't imagine anyone being better than him.

Posted: 11/6/05 at 10:03amIs the voice that Adam Wylie used in ITW his actual singing voice or just his character voice? It just sounded way to high and whiney to me.

Hands down Ben Wright. Adam Wylie was nothing short of a disaster as Jack. That voice was like nails on a chalkboard, and his acting was hideous.
Overall, I enjoyed the revival more than the original, but Adam Wylie was not one of the reasons why.

Having seen INTO THE WOODS on DVD and heard the OBCR and the revival cast recording, I have to say that Ben was a much better Jack. Like someone posted above, Adam's voices sounded whiny and high. Also, Ben's Jack is dim and spacey and that's the way I've always pictured Jack to be.
For those who have seen both shows, did you think that the revival was more cute than dark? Two months ago, PBS was airing THE BEST OF THE TONYS and they showed the revival cast as they performed at the Tonys in 2002. Making Milky-White a man-in-a-cow-costume (as opposed to a prop) and the addition of the Three Little Pigs, I think, made it seem cute and more child-friendly. To me, the show is supposed to be dark, with no real good characters. Everyone lies and cheats to get what they want in ACT I, suffering the consequences in ACT II. Just my opinion.

The revival was definitely designed as "less dark." The set was far less barren and stark. However, the show itself still felt dark. At times, it was even more tense than the original. They made the giant much scarier, and there were plenty of dark moments in Act 2.
This is just my opinion- I happened to like the revival more than the original. However, I guarantee you there will be plenty of responses in this thread that will tell you the exact opposite is true.
