Anyone caught one of Bernadette's concerts lately? Was planning on seeing her with the Pasadena Pops a couple of weeks ago - lovely outdoor setting at the LA Arboretum - but had a last minute business trip. Looking forward to seeing her at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts (formerly, Orange County Performing Arts Center) down in Costa Mesa, CA in October. Their new(is) concert hall is absolutely stunning.
So, how's our gal holding up these days? I haven't seen her in concert since either the late 90s or very early 2000s. Has she been shaking up her setlists? Singing anything from Follies or Night Music?
She also is in Northridge, CA in October at the Valley Performing Arts Center. I saw her there a few years ago and she was fantastic. She needs a new comedy writer however.
I saw her in concert in February, and here is a partial set list from said concert:
Annie Get Your Gun overture
Follies overture
Gypsy overture
Let Me Entertain You
There is Nothin’ Like a Dame
In Buddy’s Eyes
Losing My Mind
You Could Drive a Person Crazy
When You Wish Upon a Star/A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes
Send in the Clowns
Johanna
Mister Snow
No One is Alone
Children will Listen
Kramer’s Song (song she wrote about her dog)
Fever
Being Alive
With So Little to Be Sure Of (I think...I wasn't too familiar with the song; it was a medley with Children Will Listen)
I was quite surprised that she did not cover any Madam Rose material from Gypsy. All in all, she was in fine voice, with "Send in the Clowns" being one of the high points. And it was only the second time she had decided to sing the song outside of her ALNM run on B'way. I say go see her, throw out your basis for comparison, and have a good time.
I was at her concert in New Orleans earlier this year. I had the same set list provided above. I thought the show was great. She sounded and looked fabulous. I just wish she had done more of the material that made her famous (Sunday in the Park, Song and Dance, Gypsy, etc) but the addition of "Send in the Clowns" was great.
All in all worth the ticket price. It was a lovely night.
It seems like Peters has been touring with a variation on the same concert for at least five years.
She's not singing Not A Day Goes By?
Isn't that one of her signature songs?

adamgreer, I believe I read that Peters stopped singing "Not a Day Goes By" when her husband passed away in 2005.
Hm. I've seen her nearly every time's she's been in San Francisco for the last 15 years or so. She still sounds great but I have to admit I'm not as enthused anymore since her set and even the patter doesn't change very much. I'd love to see her bring out different material.
Did she try to sell you her vacation home?
Ah, Northridge! She does play the most glamorous locales!
Thanks for the response, kids. Love that she's still doing 'Fever'. Wonder if she'll still be climbing onto pianos in her 70s.
So glad she's still doing 'Follies' numbers - especially her truly lovely reading of 'In Buddy's Eyes' - was disappointed when she couldn't make the LA transfer. And I know 'No One Is Alone' and 'Children Will Listen' are almost guaranteed with BP, but I'd love to hear her do 'Stay With Me' again as well.
So, has she been playing with orchestras? Smaller ensembles?
Completely unrelated note - EmoGeek, is that you with Mdme. Lansbury at the Bowl? Do you two always get a garden box? And, um, how long as she been lifting? Those look like exceptionally strong hands for a woman of such dignified age.
unrelated response- HorseTears- that is (16 year old) me with Mrs. Lansbury at the Hollywood bowl. I was VERY fortunate to attend the rehearsals of Stephen Sondheim's 75th at the Bowl. It was a day I'll never forget. She was lovely.
"adamgreer, I believe I read that Peters stopped singing "Not a Day Goes By" when her husband passed away in 2005."
Well apparently she was still able to sing it at the Sondheim birthday concert.
Does she sing "SEND IN THE CLOWNS" like she did in the show?
It is a rather boring set list now, though. I know she probably enjoys being well rehearsed but #YOLO now is your chance to sing SWEENEY TODD Bernadette!!
