Slime every mountain: A pro-Trump PAC is airing a deepfake AI ad featuring James Talarico, the Democratic Senate candidate in Texas, in Maria's signature pinafore singing a parody of ''My Favorite Things'' from Rodgers & Hammerstein's ''The Sound of Music.'' The computer-generated Talarico sings: ''Boys in white dresses with blue satin sashes/ Girls dosed with hormones til they grow mustaches. Changing the gender of all your offspring/ These are a few of my favorite things.”
Ugh. The ad, bought by ''Citizens for Sanity,'' never displays any disclaimer that the on-screen Talarico is AI-generated. AI ads like this ought to be illegal.
The legality of AI deepfakes may still be murky, but the legality of copyright infringement sure isn't. Can we finally get some giant class-action lawsuit thrown at these GOP ghouls who keep using songs without permission in their ads?
